Air intake on AJP cars

Think the air filter on the V8s is a flat panel in the airbox under the bonnet front? Does this draw air from the nose area in front of the rad or does it have a separate intake divided from the rad void? Anyone able to describe the layout please (and whether it is thought to work ok)?

There is a forward facing air scoop tucked inside the top opening that feeds the air box from in front of the radiator.
You can see it reasonably well here. The black thing sitting in the rectangular aperture at the front of the engine compartment. You can see the open part of the scoop just below in the front opening. No rad in this pic, but it sits behind the whole of the air box area so the scoop is well in front of it.

Nice one Pupp. As mentioned on the Chimaera forum I am also looking to do this.
As it happens the Chimaera has a Cerb as a stable mate so if you need any dimensions let me know. I plan to take a better look at the weekend to see what might be feasible.
Whatever I do needs to support 450 bhp FI. I assume the standard Cerb set up will support this..?

Never had any cooling issues at all, the scoop doesn't take much of the frontal area and angles up into the air box well before the radiator so there is plenty of 'spill room' around it. The scoop is fitted to the shell with self tappers rather than being bonded in.Cheers Matt - it's more the configuration and the effectiveness I was wanting to verify. Idea on mine was/is to accommodate the largest flat filter I could fit in that panel, with the space above being taken up with a CF removable enclosure/cover with a single 4 or 3.5 inch outlet to feed back and over the rad into the compressor inlet - there's loads of under-bonnet clearance and this just seems ideal to harness cool air and keep induction runs short. A few pics of the Cerb set up would be really handy as a reference.
In the first instance, I'm going to run mine with the in-bay fiter set-up just to get some data on air temps etc but this seems a no-brainer assuming I can get a suitable cover modelled and moulded.

I have had one made up for my Griff that sits in the original place with a flat panel filter but has twin outlets either side to feed two separate banks. Proper job made from fibreglass mould. The guy who made it still has the mould, cost £125 iirc. Let me know if you want pics or contact details. BTW I haven't fitted it yet so interested in how you design the pipework.

My two turbos have inlets facing forward, these are then piped down 90deg through the front fibreglass section under the bonnet in front of the rad to two separate cut down 1/2 size standard foam filters.
These foam filters are in the nose between the rad and intercooler. This means i am more limited for space than in the Cerb setup plus it will be drawing air that has been dammed slightly by the IC. It also means turbos off, rad out for a filter change at the mo.
I too am concerned with any reduced cooling effect . On the move I don't seem to have a problem, but stood stil at idle after a run and the temps nudge up and don't arrest on a hot day and this is with one uprated fan.
Woud be worth considering what you would do if you plan to add an intercooler at some stage in the nose.
Anyway a picture speaks a thousand words so I will post some up in the next couple of days.

I've seen quite a few pics with K&N style "cone" induction kits on the AJP's and personally quite like the look of it but always wondered if it affected performance?
I imagine if it gave significant improvement many more would upgrade to it, so guess it is just cosmetic/sound enhancement?
Anyone have any knowledge?

The cone setup will certainly affect performance - not in a good way!
Given that cone filters situated in the bonnet space in front of the engine, will be taking in heated air that has passed through the air con, engine and oil cooler radiators, they will cause a decrease in performance compared to the fresh (relatively cold) air feed from in front of the radiators in the standard setup.
So all show - no go.
