Cerbera / Griff 500?
Discussion
Afternoon all,
I've got to that time in life when it's time for a toy car.
I've been thinking about various cars and thought that a Griffith 500 was what I wanted. I drove a 500 a couple of weeks ago and wasn't that impressed with the performance.
I'm assuming it was running correctly as it's owned by a well known Pistonheader.
Maybe I've been spoilt by my 430hp 2.7T RS4!
How would those who have driven both a V8 Cerbera and a Griffith 500 say the performance compares?
How does the "Occasion" compare between the two?

The way the Cerbera delivers the power, there is no other way to describe it other than brutal, which is exactly how a mate described it after getting out of his V10 M5, his words were the M5 is fast but this is just Brutal.
Griff much more even natured, quick but not as Dependant on being on cam in order to deliver.
The RS4 engine was pretty flexible but the way it pulled from 3500 - 7000 could also be described as "brutal". Griff much more even natured, quick but not as Dependant on being on cam in order to deliver.
I'm talking myself into a Cerbera I think!

You may get a slightly biased opinion in the Cerb forum.
I know of a supercharged Griff that just sold around the £20k mark, but Griff prices are definately on the rise.
Cerb is too claustrophobic for me and love the open air motoring of the Griff but you need to drive a few of each to decide.

I'd suggest Fernhurst TVR are near you but they mostly have chimps for sale, no cerbs. If you fancy a trip to gatwick I'm happy to give you a pass ride although I expect others are nearer you.
Hi Maggs,That's a great offer - I'm in Gatwick now!
Sadly just getting on a plane.
I may take you up on the offer at some time.
Fernhurst had a yellow one a few weeks ago but I didn't manage to take a look.
Evening chaps,
What have I started?
The 500 I drove "seemed" to be optimised for midrange and felt a bit flat - remember I've been used to a 430hp / 560Nm (410lbs ft) turbocharged RS4 which pulls hard up to the redline at 7000 something.
Perhaps the flat torque curve was deceiving.
Maybe I need to try one with a wilder cam - stealth?
As to what's faster - Cerbera / Chim / Griff I'm not at all interested in quarter mile times - that so depends on the launch and the mechanical sympathy (or lack of) of the driver. Same for 0-60.
I was looking for speeds for Cerberas on Vmax200 but could find very few. One at 174mph and another at low 160s. FWIW my RS4 went through the traps at 167mph.
The runway at Bruntingthorpe is a great leveller and a measure of power and aerodynamics.
I need to research a lot more - where can I find reliable (or published claims) for power / performance etc for Cerberas.
Cheers All.
Play nicely!

Getting away from the figure analysers, who has the bigger willy, what is normal and what is not for these cars. I personally honestly don't care if your car is 0.2 seconds quicker. Plus all cars are different. There is no standard. That's the joy and pain of these cars.
For me and my personal preference it's the theatre, the experience, the grim factor and most important of all my personal feel and link with my car. Im lucky enough to own a healthy 4.2 Cerbera which has 350bhp according to Joolz rolling road and I would not swap it for a Griff. If I could afford I would have both but I cannot.
My advice is that only you can decide. Try them both, try a T car, don't rule out the Chimeara. Only once you have tried them all will you be able to determine where YOUR preference lies
