I've always thought that the AJP V8 would be the way to go, and in 4.5 form for the extra performance, however recently I've read a number of reviews and heard a few opinions that the Speed 6 is an easier to use engine, with it's torque in an every day rev-range, making it potentially the better choice.

I'm going to do a back-to-back test drive to get my own view point, would be interested in anyone else's experience of the two.

After doing a back-to-back in similar aged (and priced) 4.5 and Speed 6, the Speed 6 has it's hands down. It's smoother and more enjoyable to drive, more talkative steering and better screwed together in general, although perhaps lacking the rawness and noise of the V8, although I'm sure a decating might assist there

Granted the 4.5 will is better at the top end (>100) and probably on track too, but as the majority of the cars life won't be spent in those conditions; the Speed 6 with it's better spread of torque through the rev range will be a more usable car in my opinion.

I was always convinced that the 4.5 was the car for me, and perhaps it was just this particular example, as I don't remember the one I drove before being quite so rough, I will try a few more 4.5 before my final decision, but at the moment I'm well and truly in the Speed 6 camp.

Perhaps if the car was just for me (not wife and family) I'd have stuck to my idea of the 4.5, as I've yet to own a V8 and experience the noise, but once the children get too big for the Cerbera, I'll be in the market for a two seater again...
