Had bad smell coming through the air vents a few weeks ago and temperature was hovering around the 105 mark. Then had thick smoke coming through the bonnet. The garage found that there was a leaking hose and leaking pressure cap. All fixed about 2 weeks ago incl chemical block test and fan test.

In the last few days, the temperature has been creeping up to the 90-95 mark gradually. But after about 95, it swings like a pendulum (up and down) between 95 and 110 (the max mark). On the motorway, it stays between 90 to 100.

In traffic today, it rose to 110 but I felt comfortable that the car was not overheating as the garage had just carried out the above repair and fan tests. As I approached home, it shot beyond 110 and into the oil pressure dial area for a few seconds before going back down to 105.

Is there a cause for concern ?

Thanks guys. Being a non mechanic, did the usual visuals and coolant top up b4 taking it to Mole Valley.

Richard was top-man, did some tests and found that I had 'big' air-locks which he managed to sort out on the spot. Running temperature back to normal, but there is a problem with the gauge which means its registering 10 degrees higher than engine temperature. Quite expensive to replace but I wonder whether it is covered by a warranty?
