Right. I was driving on a dual carriageway last night, went to accelerate, and at about 2200rpm, the car judders like mad and starts slowing, and the engine management light started flashing.

I read the codes, got - "17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)

P1297 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent".

I know it's a fairly common code to have come up, so I did a quick road test today. 1st gear, it pulls through with no judders. 2nd, get to 2200rpm-ish, and it does it again - judders and loses power.

I'm going to try cleaning up the throttle body, but should I be looking for a split hose? The pipe from exhaust to the dump valve, about an inch diameter, has a small slice in it, but not right the way through - could this be making it collapse under load, perhaps?

Where else should I be looking in the engine bay?

Do you have the factory dv installed ? They are (or were) prone to failure, makes a honking/chirping noise, as the diaphragm splits. IIRC, they are Bosch manufactured.
Also, all of your possible causes i'd agree with, too.

Aha ! A local chap with a problem and i might be able to help...

I still have a standard DV from my old 1.8T vRS (I've "upgraded" to a 2.0 TFSi now smile ) and as far as i know it's ok. If you want it for elimination / repair purposes you're more than welcome. Drop me an e-mail via my profile and we'll sort something out.

PM sent.

I've tried cleaning the throttle body out, no effect - but at least it's a- done, and b- now eliminated...

buy a forge 007p recirc replacement, its not a full DV so wont confuse the ecu.

around £80-£90, 5 mins to fit.

Try unplugging your MAF. If the problem goes away, you need a new one. About £70 (and you have to return the old one to the supplier).

If that and the new DV don't help, time to get hunting for split hoses. Also worth having a wander over to the Briskoda.net forums, there's plenty of advice about tracking down this issue, but no single definite cause frown

Completely forgot to update this - had a boost pipe loose, new clip and some gentle persuasion got it back together. Then had to replace two coil packs in the same day. Grrr.
