"What's your best price" is a strong buying signal, if you don't know how to close a sale after that, then you should get some decent training imo...
I would side with Amari on this one, I hate this kind of question. My response is always 'well what is your best offer?'
Nobody is going to give their best offer straight up, so why should you expect a best price straight off the bat either.
Still wouldn't justify hanging up though...

I wouldn't believe all of this, there are most certainly 2 sides to every story.
I'm sure amari will tell you a completely different story, as you say two sides to every story. However as a customer I would expect better treatment and had things been different I'm sure I would buy more cars from them. But the bitter taste left behind has ruined any chance of that.SimNugget said:

As I said, decent training will improve your margins and hit rate, PM me if you want to know more..
I've no axe to grind either way - but there is a way to behave - both the dealer and customer!
The current market is ridiculous - and so right now - dealers really call the shots.
But remember what happens when it cools down or there is another recession and that's where relationships really mean something. And if you're a buyer in those markets - then maybe you're the one that got away....
Either way - there are many other dealers to chose from - so my advice is to vote with your wallet - and you decide who you want to deal with first - tell them exactly what you're after - and let them source you the car - and make it work for both of you.

It's was no longer than a 2 minute phone call. If he would have said his best price was the one listed, I would have thanked him for his time and continued my search.
Anyway, plenty of other people selling cars who won't be offended if I ask them if they are up for doing a deal.
I'm sure he was just having a bad day

TH Snr said, on the recent TV program, that he wasn't ever up for doing a deal and the listed price was the price, take it or leave it.. Odd way to trade, especially in a world where people like to feel they've done something to improve their deal. Even it's just an extension to the warranty or even a full tank of petrolAnyway, plenty of other people selling cars who won't be offended if I ask them if they are up for doing a deal.

I'd far rather not play this silly game. Why list it at £105k when you both know its worth £100k? Someone who can afford a £100k car doesn't need his ego stroked into thinking he's 'winning' here does he? I hate negotiating for crap like this, yet I'm forced to play the stupid game as otherwise I just threw away thousands of pounds. I'd definitely prefer everything to be listed at its 'real' price, and you have two options. Get your wallet out, or don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I'd love for this to happen and forget the game of arguing over a price, just list what it's worth and buyer pays it. It's not like you go to the supermarket and haggle with the checkout girl over the price of milk, different purchase I know but still.I'd definitely prefer everything to be listed at its 'real' price, and you have two options. But there is subjectivity in second hand car prices so people expect to negotiate a little, and 5% of a pint of milk is a bit different to 5% off a Ferrari.Think 5th gear did a piece on selling high end cars from TH, Vicki squealed like a 5 year old idiot girl, and did a deal on an Aventador that was definitely knocked down a bit

I would take what is said on TV with a pinch of salt. As with all reality shows, everyone is trying to come across in a certain way.Stryke said:

However, I've dealt (or rather nearly dealt) with Hartley on a 997.2 Turbo S a few years back, and although I didn't buy it in the end, we had nego'd a deal that was a bit (not much) less than the sticker price. I dealt with his eldest son, who I believe has now gone his own way with the TH Jnr business
Maybe this is why
