Thanks I have my eye on a red non HGTE as need ground clearance. Lot of cash but seems fab car, but not driven. Re seats should I be concerned whether it has Daytona or Recaro, car I'm looking has Recaro and they look great.
Who do you use for insurance? first quote I've had is 130% more than GT3 and yet car is only 20% more expensive.

Lots of recent threads mention Locktons who I think have a special Ferrari schemeCost of insurance is varied by many things beyond absolute purchase cost such as cost of repairs

Shop around for insurance, my 599 was only a few quid more than my turbo.Who do you use for insurance? first quote I've had is 130% more than GT3 and yet car is only 20% more expensive.
I prefer daytona seats, but it's all down to personal preference.

I know I'm talking about higher budget, but why would anyone buy a 599 over a 458?? Isn't the 458 so good it makes every other Ferrari redundant?
I'd take the 599! Love the V12 engine. Acceleration from 150 is just insane! IMO a better looking car than the 458.Good luck with the 599. Look forward to seeing the pics.

Aesthetics are always a personal thing but the 458 is surely the best looking Ferrari of the modern era. 599 is very nice indeed but even in hunkered down GTO form its not as "right" as the 458.Good luck with the 599. Look forward to seeing the pics.

Sat at HR Owens service site in London the other day for an hour or so waiting for my car looking at 2 examples of each right the other side of the glass and couldn't quite credit how pretty the 458 is in the metal. Stunning.

You cannot compare the two. They are completely different to drive. One is a GT with a colossal and torquey engine, and the other a lighter sportscar. There is a reason I'm not selling my 550 (which has a similar philosophy to the 599 but obviously is the older and slower car) after my 458 has arrived. You choose a stylish GT for a different sort of trip than a 458. So even if the 458 spanks the 550 in every way imaginable, the 550 will still give me joys that the 458 can't. If I had a 599 it would be a similar decision. It is very hard to give up the joys of driving V12's.Onno

Sure you can find good independants with so-called fixed service pricing that could look after your car but please do your research as you could be returning to Porsche with your tail between your legs along with losing a load in depreciation.
I can't comment regards to the independents as I never go near them, but in regards to having my 599 serviced compared with my 997tt at the stealer's I have found Ferrari not much more and twice the help now I have changed to Colchester. Edited by Wanta996Gotta on Thursday 20th October 11:17
Don't get me started with the "Porsche always hold there money better than any other car" one, everyone one I have ever owned has dropped like a stone as all cars do, I've yet to find a car that doesn't!!!!
lotuselan7 (or anyone else out there with a 599) how did you get on with your 599. Thinking about taking the plunge this coming spring and still think they're decent value, even though in past 8-10 months they've gone from £95k to £120k for comparable cars. Anyway, help me guys....please!

awesome car, crazy fast and beautiful with it, I've had 3, 2 GTB's and one HGTE, still own the HGTE and completed around 27k miles across the 3 inc Euro couples tour, Alps serious driving, some track time - mainly charity rides at Top Gear and Goodwood, they've excelled at every levelThanks F355GTS. That's the kind of positivity I was hoping for. Can I ask if you feel the HGTE pack is fundamentally superior and worth the extra outlay? I almost think it's worth spending more just to get those wheels, which are the best of any car EVER! Incidentally, the one I'm drawn to at present has a retro-fit HGTE pack. Presumably that's the whole shebang, so to speak, and everything you get with a factory ordered HGTE model? Thanks.

Mine's a retrofit HGTE, assuming the whole upgrade was specced (around £11k I think) then the only thing you don't get is the seats which are the same as standard in terms of build but generally have Alcantara, different stitch pattern and an HGTE logo. You need to be a bit careful as the kit came in parts i.e. you could spec just the wheels and not the suspension, ECU update, Exhaust etc. The handling on the HGTE is sharper and there's no noticeable drop in ride quality, if anything it seems generally more resolved. I'd definitely choose it again over a standard car.

Mine was a beautifully spec'd HGTE model; but I didn't get on with it. Didn't suit the sort of driving and roads in my local area or over in Wales where I enjoy an occasional hone. For me - the worst car I've every had the misfortune to ownBest bet is to drive one on a mix of roads - I bought mine from Central London, and test driving through the traffic and expressways is not representative of Cheshire! Its a BIG car, length & width ........
At the time, I also ran a C63 Black Series, and that was far better drive, and once I test drove a 458............. as they say, the rest is history!
