wink aah but it does actually have one!
Having seen the car, I can confirm that it has got an Alpine, along with quite large speakers. It all looks like it will come out without too much trouble. Generally it is a slightly scruffy example with a less than perfect history (just my opinion). The adjustable suspension does not help the appeal for most buyers. It will be interesting to see if it sells. There are a few cars in the dealers at the moment, good bad and ugly, and most have been in stock for a while. After the price rises over the past 18 months I think there may be a small price correction required going into the autumn/winter months for committed sellers.

Arguably the F40 already went - it certainly did before the F50 and 288 GTO, and it's the most common of the three.

They don't tend to do too well at auction but it will be interesting to see - it will just depend on the day.

I don't know why, but I would never in a million years think this chap:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1206353/...

Owned this car:
http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20929/lot/344/?pag...

Still, apparently Tony Robinson owned/owns a TVR which is equally surprising.
From Bonhams.......an F40 that's "offered with an Alpine stereo system"........laugh
wink aah but it does actually have one!
I'm sure it has, just wouldn't brag about it if I was the bugger writing the copy for the entry. An Alpine stereo for goodness sake when you've that motor inches behind your ears. Found it funny.
Way back in 1985 i collected a 288GTO from the factory & brought it back to the UK.

It didnt have a radio. It didnt need one.....

Anyway, when i got the car back the boss got in it & said 'where is the stereo system?' I told him it didnt have one & it didnt need one.

He said it did so he contacted Alpine who came out to fit one.... The fitter wasnt sure either however in went a pioneer stereo radio/cassette system!!!

When i took the car down to Maranello Concessionaires for its first service they looked in horror at this god awful stereo that had been installed - badly.

They were genuinely not impressed & not once when i was in the car was the damn thing turned on. Why would you?

Sacrelige imo.

+1 On a ratio of column inches written about her to how good looking she is she's about the worst there is.

Guess she also in theory owns a highly disputed Aventador

Anyway I was told by someone that she is actually quite a good driver, but if you are brought up all your life around racecars its kind of what you would expect
Not sure why it should be a surprise that "she is actually quite a good driver" regardless of who she is or how she was bought up.

The thing with F40s is that although they have clearly gone way up there are just so many cars available.
Last year I would have bought one but the phone calls literally went, we have just sold it but we have another 3 coming in from Italy/Spain/France/Holland etc

They have held up well but there are so many for sale I just cant see it lasting

.... anyway when they are a million by next year all the owners will be laughing

Dinos £150k

Agree fully with the numbers available. There seems to be no shortage of available cars, unlike say Dino's, of which there were three times as many built, and a good percentage still around.

Stereo is on???

Personally I don't quite subscribe to the generic idea that a stereo is a no-no in a Ferrari. There are plenty of situations where I enjoy my stereo in the 550 and 458. But in my 330GTC and my 365BB it's never been on. And when I drove the F40, the conclusion was the same. It is a performance machine that should be driven for the enjoyment of driving, not transportation. Especially because there is so much going on when you drive an F40. The waste gate, the engine noise, the afterburn pop-pop-pop. To me the machine felt like some sort of Frankenstein car at the moment the electricity leads are still attached to the corpse. Very exciting and slightly unpredictable movements.

Also surprising is that this thing owns this caryikes

But really, I've always thought a 599 GTO and Tamara Ecclestone was an odd (but not terrible) combination.

Is that still true? Saw that Gallardo several times at various Silverstone events, that wing at the back is fantastic

People say that but based on what?

I spoke to a few people who were involved then and now and they say the markets are fundamentally different.

F40's were produced in numbers that made them common as cookies. You know that. Seems like ever other PH'er has one or had one at some point.

I think the last bubble was fuelled by the Japanese investment boom, which caused a worldwide one, and when that crashed the bubble burst.

This time the bubble is based on a distrust of the financial systems. As soon as the top levels of private investors realise they can make money though financial institutions, the sheep-like investors will follow and as the prices of classic cars start to fall people will panic and sell, causing further 'correction'.

That's a very over simplified way of putting it, the reality is much more intricate, but it will happen.

That's how trends happen, people copy what the wise people have done but the majority are too late. The lose money because the wise people were there first and they made money.
