650S to 570S straight chop.
Discussion
You really should keep your trolling for the Porsche forums. At least you can pretend you know more about what you are talking about.
Have you actually even driven either car? Exactly how is the 570 more of a drivers car than the 650? They both carry a huge amount of electronic aids with various active systems and dual clutch boxes. The 570 electronics have been better calibrated for arsing around but it is in no way an analogue driver's car of the type of a 997gt3 nevermind 996gt3.

What do you think?
I could order a highly specced 570S (gorgeous in white!) and chop in my 650S Spider without spending a penny.
Pros:
Latest model.
Brand new car.
Easily enough performance for just about anywhere I could ever drive.
Lovely looking thing (650S is a bit iffy).
Cons:
No open top driving.
No Aero - I love that thing bouncing about in the rear view mirror!
Not the same completely insane performance (even if I rarely use it!).
Not the same exclusivity (they'll sell bucket loads of 570S's, it'll be as common as muck)
Will the 650S do a RamboLambo and suddenly be worth the price of a small diamond mine in a few years?
With McLaren reportedly planning 17 new models in the next 5 years will the 570S become the "Go to car"?
Should I wait for a Spider 570S or just hang on for the 650S replacement (720?) and throw in the extra few quid?
If you are motivated by straight line acceleration, the stitching on the seats and range pecking order/pub bragging rights (as most 'car enthusiasts' seem to be these days) then keep the 650.I could order a highly specced 570S (gorgeous in white!) and chop in my 650S Spider without spending a penny.

The 570 is a better car though for the discerning driver who places the actual sensory experience at the centre of his decision making. More intuitive, more playful, more connected and just more engaging. Oh and no, you don't need to be Gods gift or drifting around every corner to appreciate that, the difference is obvious just pottering along at 20mph through the city centre in a straight line.
And yes, I have driven both. The 650, like the Huracan, just bored the tits off me after 15 minutes.

Trying to understand more specifically the differences you describe. The 570 has better steering feel? sounds better? handles more neutrally? electronics interfere less obviously?br d said:

Can I offer an opinion as a non-McLaren owner but as somebody who aspires to have one soon. I could order a highly specced 570S (gorgeous in white!) and chop in my 650S Spider without spending a penny.

Both are great cars so the decision is fairly subjective, but the 570s is presented in the McLaren line us as being a step below the 650 so you would be stepping down the ladder so to speak, to counter that the 570s looks a much more coherent design and of course if you are buying new you get to spec it to your exact requirements. It will be a brand new shiny 'out of the box' car and there is something joyous about taking delivery of any new car. The counter to the 'new car' joy is that after a month or so it will be just another used 570s!
Performance wise there would be nothing in it unless you do track days. You should never get near the performance differences on the road so that shouldn't really matter, so IMHO... the sensible view is to keep the 650s as that makes the most financial sense as well as offering a slight 'bragging rights' advantage over the 570s with regards to on-paper performance and technical spec. If your supercar ownership is more an emotional journey than a sensible one, buy the prettier 570s now or wait for the 570 spider and enjoy the whole new-car experience. It's a head or heart decision!
