And I think you've answered your own question tbh per the above on the 430/7.1gt3. Get the Ferrari but for a car to actually enjoy driving I'd have the gt3 or R8 v10 over a 430 everytime.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like you are after 'sense of occasion' rather than the 'best' or 'fastest' car (which is subjective).

Both of the above will get you into trouble of you even try to approach their limits on the road, as will most cars mentioned in this thread, so it's the overall ownership experience and feel good factor that will count.

In that respect, I'd have the F430 over the GT3. It just gives you more, feels more special and that's what it's all about.

If you can find one with carbon racing seats, snap it up. They have you set lower down and feel great.

Have fun in your search thumbup

Edit to add: after a quick search, I'd be looking at this one

MrV, very kind of you to reply in detail with great input, you hit the nail on the head it’s a sense of occasion I am after, something special. I’ve had a 911, but never a Ferrari....

I need to drive them both ASAP.

Cheers.

No worries..

I think it's the Fezza you're after by the sound of it, so just go for it, narrow down what you want spec-wise & colour first and don't compromise. A car will come up.

I'd definitely want:
Carbon race seats
Upgrade wheels
Shields
Carbon interior

Make sure manifolds have been done as these are prone to fail. Suspension on the front can be a tad fragile also. Can be rebuilt or replaced, worth checking to see if already done.

Also. With the market the way it is, a lot of cars available could be on SOR, so don't be afraid to make an offer. Something up for £85k could wel be had for mid to late 70's if the seller wants out.

this, a 430 or possibly stretch to a 599? just because the engine is so sweet

599 is a good shout too.

Also, might be worth considering a recent GranTurismo if you're looking for something to cruise Europe in. Less ££ also

Both good suggestions - GranTurismo MC Stradale is my current item of obsession - perhaps not as sporty or rapid as some of the others suggested here but the noise of the thing is spine tingling, it seats 4 in comfort (or 2 for long distances with bags).

A very nice problem to have though sir!

Shame the same can't be said for its gearbox.

Yes, 599 is epic, but a dealer/warranted car will be well over £85k....

Going to call Mclaren tomorrow and discuss their warranty......

Interesting. I have a V10 Spyder Manual which I simply love but its not quite special enough although people do take pics, and I do really like the 430 Spyder. and at another 25k ish its looking tempting, or possibly an SVR F type which is a 200mph beast

F types are real value but they will keep shedding value and I can't have that, not the same "specialness" league as the other options though I don't think...?

If after test driving your options you make a firm decision on an F430, feel free to drop me a DM as I know a perfect car and spec for your budget.

Can’t see past a F430 spider at this price point for what you’re after.

Loved mine. I’d also say a V12V another good option. My brother recently sold his but that was also special. That noise cloud9

The Ferrari will make you feel far more special than any Porsche (or Audi) at this price point. And I am a massive Porsche fanboy.

Hi,

I feel that the value is currently in the F430 so leaning that way, GT3s seem to be sticking (I expect values to fall a bit this year) and I think have a bit more "collectors premium" in them than a F1 F430 at the moment.

Have been talking to AV Engineering, these guys know their stuff!

Tried to email you, you aren't accepting.....try me? Cheers.

Once you learn to drive them it's fantastic and the wallop it gives you in the back on a full throttle upshift gives you a real sense of acceleration.

Had a 997.1 GT3 CS. A very capable car, and exciting when thrashed, but for road use the special feeling soon disappeared. Fezza all the way.

+1

F430 will make you beam and your heart race before you've even turned the key, which is what it sounds like you care most about.

The other cars mentioned - including an R8 and 911 - are arguably better cars, certainly performance wise and cabin appointment (F430 interior is from the era of "you pay for the engine and the rest is free"). But none of that matters once you savour the theatre of the Ferrari.

I wouldn't dismiss the LP560 though, Gallardos were Lambo's answer to the F430. Murcis are more hypercar.

I've owned both 997 GT3 & F430.

Had the GT3 for 3 yrs, great drivers car, the handling and feel are superb, as is the high revving race derived engine. On a cross country run, you'll feel totally connected, engine, manual gear change, steering all giving you sensory overload. They are a bit of a handful in the wet, P Zero Corsa tyres will have you aquaplaning at anything over 50mph in a downpour...

Costs wise, £1200 Porsche warranty (not essential with a GT3), service are £700 & £1200, every 2 yrs or 20k miles. Fuel, about 20mpg on a hoon.

The F430 is different, not quite a poised but still very direct, feels great in the steering and of course the noise is a serious step up (especially if you unplug the exhaust valves....). The F1 is a bit clunky but once you learn how to drive it (slight lift when changing) it is a great 'box. Really great fun to bang through the gears. A spirited hoon in the Ferrari will make you laugh out loud compared to the GT3. Warranty is approx. £2.5k, services £900 & £1500 alternatively. If something goes wrong, it will be a more expensive car to own no doubt. Fuel...... ahem..... hehe

I've owned both cars too and I'd agree with all of the above and add that on the road due to its long gearing you'll find yourself driving at licence losing speeds in the GT3 where as the sense of occasion can be had in the F430 at much lower speeds. As another option I'd urge you to try a V12 Vantage 6 speed manual, in my opinion a better road car than either...good luck
