I think it's the Fezza you're after by the sound of it, so just go for it, narrow down what you want spec-wise & colour first and don't compromise. A car will come up.
I'd definitely want:
Carbon race seats
Upgrade wheels
Shields
Carbon interior
Make sure manifolds have been done as these are prone to fail. Suspension on the front can be a tad fragile also. Can be rebuilt or replaced, worth checking to see if already done.
Also. With the market the way it is, a lot of cars available could be on SOR, so don't be afraid to make an offer. Something up for £85k could wel be had for mid to late 70's if the seller wants out.

Both good suggestions - GranTurismo MC Stradale is my current item of obsession - perhaps not as sporty or rapid as some of the others suggested here but the noise of the thing is spine tingling, it seats 4 in comfort (or 2 for long distances with bags). Also, might be worth considering a recent GranTurismo if you're looking for something to cruise Europe in. Less ££ also

Hi,I feel that the value is currently in the F430 so leaning that way, GT3s seem to be sticking (I expect values to fall a bit this year) and I think have a bit more "collectors premium" in them than a F1 F430 at the moment.

F430 will make you beam and your heart race before you've even turned the key, which is what it sounds like you care most about.
The other cars mentioned - including an R8 and 911 - are arguably better cars, certainly performance wise and cabin appointment (F430 interior is from the era of "you pay for the engine and the rest is free"). But none of that matters once you savour the theatre of the Ferrari.
I wouldn't dismiss the LP560 though, Gallardos were Lambo's answer to the F430. Murcis are more hypercar.

A spirited hoon in the Ferrari will make you laugh out loud compared to the GT3. Warranty is approx. £2.5k, services £900 & £1500 alternatively. If something goes wrong, it will be a more expensive car to own no doubt. Fuel...... ahem.....

I've owned both cars too and I'd agree with all of the above and add that on the road due to its long gearing you'll find yourself driving at licence losing speeds in the GT3 where as the sense of occasion can be had in the F430 at much lower speeds.
