I've never bought a Ferrari from a main dealer before (which is an option on this) though bought several Porches. What sort of room for negotiation is there likely to be? 3k-4k on a 60k car is my Porsche experience. Are Ferrari any better/worse?
I would say about the same, i have bought a couple of ferrari's from main dealers, they all start off by saying they can only knock a few hundred off but give it a week or so and haggle hard you should get decent chunk off, if you do buy private, get it inspected and get a power warrenty, might seem dear at 2k but if something goes bang it could be expensive and you have the peace of mind knowing its covered!!
I managed to hanggle £5k off the £60k price tag at a main dealer last year. First registered interest in Oct, & went in low and let them stew on it. It was still there in Jan when I re-offered - and they wanted to shift it. Slowly slowly, catchie monkey...
Power warantees are good to have, especially for peace of mind on your first Ferrari, but not essential as a- they don't cover everything and b- 550's are usually pretty reliable.
PS- mine is argento silver, with red/burgendy leather interior.
What I would say is essential is a Tubi Style exhaust. Makes a massive difference, primarily to the grin level on my face when driving it. Would recommend you try one with and one without to see if the difference is important for you.
Enjoy.

Is that haggling £5K off, or was it a case of the car becoming a year older and depreciating between first offer and purchase ?
When buying from a dealer find out if the car is SOR or not. If so, there's a greater chance that the price is more flexible
This is getting more complicated!
Went to see a car today...'97 550 with 12k miles in excellent condition but with half a rugby team of previous owners. Can be had for around £56k. Alongside it is 2002 575M with 7k miles, sports exhaust, handling pack and one owner. Can be had for around £77k.
Both are excellent colour combos.
So...which would be better buy given that value for money is more important than purchase price? That is, I want to get best car for money and one that will cost/lose least over next couple of years.
£21k seems a pretty small gap to cover the 5 year and 6 owner difference between the cars...or does it?

Ignore the number of previous owners, it's not uncommon for a Ferrari to have as many as half a dozen owners in it's first year, particularly if it's an early car.
I would go for the 575, it's supposed to be a better car, and "just" 21K cheaper for a car 5yrs younger seems good value.

Yes, both at main dealers. Your comments mirror my thoughts exactly...575 seems a good deal/better car but will lose more money...unless the older car goes wrong and needs more spending on it. Just don't know.
Bought mine in November from Maranello: Silver/Burgundy (to save my blushes spelling). Got 6k movement in p/ex cash to change. I still have a spreadsheet with all the cars in the UK for sale on it if anyone wants a copy. Look on Fcars.net for the full story (if that's allowed to be mentioned here)

550s look just as good in Rosso Corsa as any other colour.
As for interior trim I would avoid Crema leather as it's a pig to keep clean.
1) Currently considering a 550 but only in red! I'll wait for the right car to find me.
2) Have cream interior on the 3200gt and eventually got fed up with the hassle and put black front seats in it for ease of use! Keeping the cream ones for when its sale time.
