On vag and bmw etc & therefore I’m sure Audi, you can put the vin into a vin decoder and it tells you the factory options. So get the last 7 digits of the vin. Eg Here’s my mini spec

I’m not sure how you can claim it’s better than the Huracan because you had a look around them. How many miles have you done in huracan?
I can claim what I like, it’s my opinion wink Who said I’ve only looked round them?

I‘ve done enough miles in most iterations of Huracans to form my opinion; 2wd, 4wd and Performante. In fact I had a Perf for a couple of weeks and did a good few hundred miles in it. On the basis of my experience, it is my opinion that the R8 is the better road car for the reasons I stated; better steering, better seats, better driving position (because it has better seats, but also because the cabin is fractionally longer so it has more legroom) and significantly better tech (nav, audio etc all much better in the Audi as it’s the newer generation virtual cockpit whereas the Huracan, latest Evo excepted, has Audi’s older system).

I say road car because that’s where I have experience of both of them. Whilst I’ve driven my R8’s on track, and they are better than expected but nothing like, say, a McLaren, I’ve never driven a Huracan on track. I suspect the Huracans firmer setup, especially the Performante, would make for a better track car....but then if that’s what you want, there’s much better cars for track use for the money.

ETA, I should caveat that I don’t think the Huracan is a bad car....far from it.

The differences I talk about are mainly software and tuning as the underlying cars are very, very similar (in terms of hardware of the pre-Evo standard Huracan, they’re all but identical), so one cannot be bad and the other good. The Huracan will have a different appeal that an R8 could never touch, mainly brand, design and image which is what you’re paying a premium for (no different to someone buying a Urus vs a Q8....virtually the same car apart from brand and design). Not least, if you put both cars in front of the majority of people, most would prefer the Huracan because of what it is....I’m just not one of those people.

Palmball - thanks for the various posts in this thread. Very helpful and sounds like you definitely know your subject matter. Currently debating whether to swap my Gen1 V10 manual spyder for a Gen2, and you’ve given me some food for thought!

You're welcome, hope it's useful and serves as a reminder just how underrated and good these cars are.

My original post where I describe the suspension trait on early examples has an error. I said that 67 plate and later cars are guaranteed to be fine, but I actually meant that 66 plate cars and later will be fine. So to be clear:

- 2015/16 65 plate cars: all will have low speed, <10mph, bouncy suspension (the car will feel unnaturally bouncy and underdamped going over speed bumps)

- 2016 16 plate cars: some will also have this

- 2016 66 plate cars and later: will all have properly damped suspension (the car will feel solid and well controlled over speed bumps)

Having owned both a Gen1 and Gen2, IMO the Gen2 is a big step up all round.

Hmm I’d have thought that a gen1 manual would hold its money pretty well at this stage.

Obviously I have a gen 1 so am biased here and also can't afford a gen 2 but.... I wouldn't swap. Bought the car for how it looks, especially the 1 piece carbon fibre side blade, and the manual gated gear lever none of which gen 2 can match... IMO the gen 2 car makes a bit of a dogs dinner of a stunning timeless design

Yup. If it were just me then I’d be keeping it! But actually having an S-Tronic means that the Mrs can drive us home if I’ve decided to have a drink when out!

To my amazement Gen 1 manuals are not racing away (yet) from the R tronics in value as much as I had hoped they would, not on par with the 430 manual to F1 box price difference anyway

And I am hoping it stays like that, and that prices continue to drop for a bit longer yet.....until I can resist no longer!......And then they start to rise obviously!!!! Lol!

ive had my gen 1 v10 manual Spyder for just over 2 years and its dropped around 100 a week in value in that time. Right now id say there is a fair chance they are very close to bottom for a decent condition history manual. id have lost way more than 10k on anything newer. incredible cars well built and classy and timeless design. i do like those 570s in orange too and i need to scratch a 430 Spider itch also

The Gen1 S Tronic is the best of all worlds, in my book.

I agree and these have a rarity value as they were only made for 2.5 years, until the Gen2 came out.

The Gen 1 R8 V10+ S-tronic is around mid £60k for a good one, but looking at the prices of the Gen 2 R8 V10+ you can get one for late £70k now which IMO is crazy value.

So for just £10-15k more I would personally go for the Gen 2.

No carbon interior or engine bay, although the advert states it has the latter. Driver's seat bolster looks well worn too. It is a lot of car for the money though.

There's also liquid drips on the centre console, dirt on the floors and the car hasn't been cleaned.

It's by no way definitive but the ad says the car is "perfect in every single way" and well, call me Mr. Picky, the above suggests otherwise. Even if you ignore that pickiness, the above doesn't do anything to convince me this this car has been loved and cared for.

Tread carefully, a PPI is a must but yes, a lot of car for the money!

Absolutely, Reece. If a seller can't be bothered to clean their car properly prior to advertising it for sale, it doesn't say much for how it was treated during their ownership.
