It's interesting reading the comments on here, I'm very lucky in that I've spent quite a lot of time around and driving the T.50, if I had the money I wouldn't have one. Yes the engine noise is amazing from outside and inside, but as a road car, given its been billed as a usable supercar its just not very good at being a road car.

I also think all the praise GM gets is absurd, give a team of enthusiastic auto engineers the same budget and you'd probably end up with similar cars.

Make something fun and sporty and about driving feel and all that for the mass market for 40 / 50k, much more of a challenge imo...

Your last point is probably true, but nonetheless irrelevant to the thread. Your first point is interesting - why is it a bad car?

… and your point about a group of engineers coming up with the same car doesn’t strike me as likely tbh.

The fact that I sat through the 7!! advert breaks in a 30 minute video did 2 things,

Firstly it reinforced why I never normally watch online content (this was the first in years)
Secondly it confirmed just how good those 2 cars are, how much I want a T.50 and how much Henry has matured in the years since he first started writing for Evo.
Every so often I get a reminder of the value I get from my Youtube premium subscription! Doesn't cost a lot but transforms the Youtube experience.

There are other enthusiastic automotive engineers and they have a budget, don't they? This one is different and it doesn't have to be the best. Think how many production cars there are with a central driving position, 12000 rpm, a rear fan and with this weight. Add to that naturally aspirated v12 and manual transmission.
I'm not saying that others can't do it, but if they can then they're not interested in producing a car like this.

I don't think you'd make it through a Jodie Kidd video with GM because she makes out like he's the second coming himself

How, may I ask, have you 'spent quite a lot of time... driving the T.50'?

Video is mostly S70/2 and Cosworth GMA. It's like comparing classical and rock music. When Henry said that you can take the T50 "by the neck", I honestly thought that it is like any other modern supercar. However, due to some parts of this and the top gear test, I could be wrong.

It’s 2024 and having an interesting engine is a bit of a novelty so not surprising that the review is nearly entirely about the engines, even if it gets a bit repetitive. Thankfully nothing about infotainment.

If I had the "I just want the icon" money then yes 100% but as amazing as the T.50 is it doesn't seem to do any one thing better than other modern Supercars.

I suspect that's an irrelevant angle though, he'll sell as many as can make and potential buyers aren't comparing figures with other cars. This is an entirely different ball game and the world's a much better place with GM in it.

I'd say it offers something different. Which other supercar offers a NA V12 with a manual gearbox and weighs under just 1000kgs? Once moving, no PAS. I'd say it's very different to just about anything else on the market?

Yes, all of that and a central driving seat too. Totally unique.

The driving position certainly but the engine and stuff aren't really factors because the car isn't really 'on the market' is it?
You can't just buy one.

But yeah I was being simplistic, what I was trying to clumsily say is that performance and handling wise it doesn't do anything that other cars can't, like the F1 did in its time.

I'm sounding critical which wasn't my intention, it's a wonderful thing.

Yes, it's clumsy to write about the "flaws" of the T50 and at the same time think it's the best. By the answer, I would say that dmz understood. Assuming this is correct, T50 compared to F1 - less dive, less body roll, less required skills. Why?

I'd argue no road car needs more performance than is offered by the fastest supercars around today. The F1 wasn't meant to be about the performance, it was meant to be about the driving experience, it just so happened it was very, very fast. This has a bit more power and a bit less weight. It'll be plenty fast enough.

Yes I agree but I wasn't saying that it needs to be faster, just that it doesn't have the same shock factor that the F1 brought.

Which of course it doesn't need and the people buying it won't care a jot about that.

I saw one at Goodwood a while back and it's beautiful, I hear a lot of negativity about the fan but in the flesh I thought it looked perfect.
