Help pick a Supercar - £120k budget

A PHer bought a Ferrari from that dealer, it didn't end well.More generally I'd be wary of trying to buy a supercar right at the bottom of the market. It feels to me like I'd want a £145-150k budget to go out and buy a good 488.

Ouch, didn't know about that thread. But the difficulty is there are horror stories with many. This McLaren one sounds bad too: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...More generally I'd be wary of trying to buy a supercar right at the bottom of the market. Agree somewhat re buying the bottom of the market but I do think with 488's, if you start going up the market, the main difference is mileage and age. 2016 models have now used the entirety of their 7 years free servicing so for every year newer you're probably paying an additional few grand given the costs of servicing which I hope OP has factored into his ongoing costs of supercar ownership.
Realistically, at 120k, I'd suggest most of the cars on the list should have a PPI but a Ferrari warranty for 5 months helps.

Worth noting than aoart from OP no one else has mentioned a porsche probabky because they just aren't special enough and are far too common.
Also the porsche price bubble that has protected values is now well and truly burst and with loads for sale and huge production numbers still coming thru prices need a big price correction
I think the 500bhp GT3 4 litre is enough car to be classed as a supercar, and there aren't huge numbers of them around. It is a bit more sensible/mundane than some of the other suggestions though of course. Also the porsche price bubble that has protected values is now well and truly burst and with loads for sale and huge production numbers still coming thru prices need a big price correction
Insurance wise its actually more expensive than the gallardo performanti I got a quote on which surprised me and the same amount as a 570S. Agree a price correction seems imminent on them and other cars perhaps
At £120k there would only one contender for me, A 650S. Insanely fast, well built & reliable. You can pick a spider or coupe and have money left over for 2 years of warranty, insurance, tax & petrol. I would like to think they are at the bottom of their depreciation curve. Also a reputation, along with the 675LT, as the most 'reliable' McLaren. Such a broad width of ability from superfast, super sexy, supercar to 30+ mpg quiet, comfortable, motorway cruiser. Russ Hanneman drove one, what additional endorsement would you need?

how about this one

Whilst I'm sure that's a great car - I loved my 360 - I just can't see how that car can be worth £20k+ more than a 650 spider that's 10 years newer, half the mileage, higher spec (carbon tub etc. etc). But I guess we're all different.https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/15475761

Although I'd love a ferrari, I think the budget dictates it would be an older /less technical model that probably isn't ridiculously "supercar" quick if that makes sense?I feel I need the next level kick up the backside thrust, with fabulous handling and decent looks to some extent.

It partly depends on how you're looking at cost, if you're including expected depreciation I suspect it'd work out better. 488 as mentioned above is really as good as you'd be able to get on the budget which I'd say is genuine modern supercar.I feel I need the next level kick up the backside thrust, with fabulous handling and decent looks to some extent.

Yeah, if 458 values were halfway between 430s and 488s, then they'd be a great option at this price point, but their high esteem holds them up, leaving a 'gap' in the Ferrari choices.200Plus Club said:

That sounds a lot like a McLaren to me - big turbo power with fairly low weight; hydraulic steering designed by ex-Lotus engineers coupled with carbon-tub rigidity; spectacular looks (aesthetics are a matter of taste, but they certainly have the drama). I'm very happy with my 570GT, and also managing so far w/o warranty, benefiting from V Engineering's knowledgable care.
