By contrast, my best friend has a 996 Turbo. 54 plate, stunning condition, worth £60k. No one, and I mean no one even looks at his car if I am following or leading him. People love a ferrari because they are in a league of their own.

I'd be looking at your friends's car far more - horses for courses I guess

As always, looks are subjective, but I'm a little surprised that some people find the styling of the 348 so awful.

I think they're a really attractive looking car and they're hiding their advancing years very well. We're in 2006 now people and this is a car that was launched in 1990(?) That's sixteen years ago.

Maybe the rear lamps aren't ageing too gracefully but that was the styling of the time. I think that the 348 is very appealing looks wise.

Get a 348 for weekends and a mondeo for everyday use.

For most of us an excellent idea.

Pete - why you toying with a 348 / 911 when the Maserati G/S is on the way? not jealous at all ( ) but a bit confused!

I always wanted a Ferrari Rich. Just wanting to scratch that 'itch' I guess.
I also like the look of the 348.
There was a Black 348 in Worthing yesterday and it did look great!

It could of been my 348 you saw in Worthing, and i tried a 996 before i bought the Ferrari in January. The 996 was nice but thats all, its amazing how good it feels driving the Ferrari all for only 25k...One thing i would say is, Im glad i still have my Cupra R for day to day use, trying to park the 348 at a busy Kebab shop was a nightmare...not soo cool then!

Now here's an odd thing ...

I have had the 911, an older 3.2 Carrera for a week now and I know now, same as I knew before I got it, that it will never be a Ferrari in looks, sound, driving pleasure, reaction, you name it.

Don't get me wrong, I really like it, even more so after the Dawn Blast last Sunday where it performed superbly, and am looking forward to getting to know it, but I do miss the sense of occassion that surrounds every trip out in the Ferrari, whether it be a high speed run out, a trip into town, or even backing out of the garage to wash, they really are that special.

Now the odd bit ... most of you who knew my car agreed (or lied very well ) that it was a lovely looking car ... but, my wife Vicki, both her parents, AND both her brothers, all prefer it's looks over the TVR or the Ferrari. Wierd or what?

I think it is because it is such an iconic design, and that is why I wanted a 3.2 with the trademark whaletail. I don't think the newer ones have the same character, superb pieces of engineering that they may well be.

Pointless ramble I know, but I was genuinely surprised that they ALL preferred the 911 to the Spider.

Hmmm.

For day to day use I'd take the 996 every time.
On the hot sunny sunday morning when I'm ready to go for a blat then I'd regret not owning the ferrari though.

As a day to day car though I think porsche is the more sensible option...

I'd love a Ferrari, but it would have to be the 355 (or possibly a 328), but they're really a high days car.

Trouble is having a nice car in the garage for high days means you often miss out on some great drives on the way back from work/meetings when the weathers perfect.

I had this proplem running an Audi S3 daily and Caterham at the weekend, so I swapped the Audi for a 911 Carrera (3.2) and keep the Caterham for the weekend.

Had similar thoughts - New Porsche v used F355. Whilst the car was never going to be the daily driver, bought a new Cayman S in the end and delighted with it. Decided to carry on saving for a 360 Spyder!

I really want a cayman S

but compared to a 348gtb....it'd be the ferrari

If you want to see it really filthy on my second day of ownership last Sunday, check out the last couple of pages in the Yorks forum under "wolds wazz".

If you need to ask the question Ferrari or Porsche?...Then the answer should be Porsche.

Especially if a 500SL is also part of the equation!

You buy a Ferrari because you want one.
