Fantastic Day - 20/06/2004

Guys,
What can I say ?........... A big thank you to you all, one of the best events so far.
You all helped to make my job a whole lot easier & it was good to see you all as ever.
I will endeavour to get the list of results up as soon as possible, I believe the Vmax was yet again Adam/mike in the awesome Ruf at 192mph, thanks for the ride guys, I have never seen 211mph on a speedo before!
Top sound of the day has to go to Kevins beautiful 360CS, my ears are still bleeding! It measured (from memory) 114db (when the limit at brunters is in fact 85 )
The big fast porkers as ever tirelessly pounded the track putting in consistently fast speeds, Daz, Guy in the GT2, Henry and derestrictor all at 185+ time and time again.
Big T, love the new car, looked and sounded amazing and you even left with all bodywork entact
Mod500, that yellow animal is etched on my retinas, top choice.
The super stealthy RS6 with over 500bhp was getting high 170's, nice work Paul.
Danny(goodlife), thanks for the ride, it was smooth, fast and refined, I only wish I'd had a g&t on the way around to complete the experience!
To the TVR boys, always fast, loud and smiling despite any mishaps!
Gizard, thanks for folding out your r/h wing mirror, you know what I mean
Guy, the Ultima sounding awesome and singlehandedly responsible for coating the start line in some great rubber, good to see you pal.
if I've missed anyone please forgive me,
Greg, thanks for all your help, I've said it before, couldn't do it without you.
Emma, have my finger marks come out of your dashboard, thanks for the ride
See you all at Vmax VI
thanks again,
Craig

Morning All
Well, what can you say???? What a day to remember...
Me and Rich got up at 4am, journeyed 'over the hill' to meet DeR and the Beetle, and took a steady drive down to Greg and Emma's (lovely) house. Thank you so much for the warm welcome and butties.
Then the convoy over to Brunters was great fun....Kevin's 360 CS sounds totally obscene crazy!
I enjoyed my time on the strip immensely, it allowed me to explore the cars handling characteristics (I've only had it a week you see). By the end of the day I felt more confident in the car, and was getting used to really pushing the car round the bends.
Thank you to all who kindly gave me a passenger ride, especially the 993 RS....what a car, so raw and exciting, and a very good driver too. The phrase 'rifle bolt' gear changes comes to mind. I hope people enjoyed passengered rides in mine also.
Thanks to Craig for his usual slick organisation and another great V-max day.
Nice to meet faces old and new during the day. I think the atmosphere yesterday was really friendly and exciting also.
Best Regards
Martyn.

A particularly pleasant day although empathy for the limpees - hopefully all mechanical ailments will be sorted asap.
Cheers to Emma & Pearlescant 'Any old iron' Thomas for the usual unstinting hospitality and quite the most sublime bacon butties - not to mention extracting 7000 rpm from George's depths - he seems to be in fine fettle following recent HGV-based altercations.
Craig - a singular pleasure old bean - what would we do without thee? Sterling performance and admirable diplomacy in reassuring the locals that several thousand db is in fact, perfectly acceptable and indeed, desirable.
Particular mention to Dr Johnny Aardvark Senwold - following his advice it is my intention to leave the rodent race and establish a hippy commune on Lindisfarne. Tenuously sensible policies for a benficent aristocracy.
Aussi, le garcon Adam & pater with the Red Terror. The Ruffian takes on all comers but invariably slaps them down with contemptuous disdain. To wit, the beetle is currently sulking in his lair, smarting from 'that thing' which happens at 160 mph; sensational is a wholly unsatisfactory adjective but it's the only way to describe the utter frustration as one's automotive emasculation transpires at the hands of an evil scientist called Alois.
It was nice to be flattened by the black Ultima's ridiculous stoppers: Guy has carried out certain improvements to the car and it now fully vindicates it's title as the consumate Le Mans renegade, vomitting forth with quite fabulous brutality.
Rare honours for me came in the form of the opportunity to passenger a brand new GT3-RS: a napeus prickelatum worthy of the finest halls of Avalon as the dial nudged the 8000 mark, probably the finest real world car this side of Kevin's Stradale...and yes, I remain ignorant as to it's massive glories although my cohort in runic battle, Herr Dazzenhauer of Landau, was deigned worthy of actual piloteering - and was duly smitten.
This car actually hurts from a full-bore 1st gear take off, such is the blast from it's rear firing mortars but it remains my ultimate vehicle of the moment, simply divine.
Another meritous transport was the stunning 993RS which possibly eclipsed it's renowned offspring in the ultimate track questing stakes. A rare right hooker, operated by a seriously able wheelman called John, I was treated to a copious dollop of power oversteer on a couple of grolsch yielding corners, a compelling demonstration of the creed unto which the likes of the minimalist sect of Clubsport & Domster give unswerving supplication.
All in all then, my best V-Max to-date and nice to see a few more regulars, Ultra V and the girl Corrine of Rudimentary Griffness to name but two of the attendant luminaries.
Marvellous.
P.S. Thanks to Martyn of MOD500 fame for keeping things on the boil en route - although I'm still unsure as to quite which drugs were stimulating the yardie through Brum in that thar C43 AMG...

A great fun day and wonderful to see so many great cars from such a wide selection of manufacturers. I would have liked to have been there longer, but the combination of a lunchtime petrol-hunt that took over an hour and also a summons from the family to get back early for Fathers Day meant less time than I'd have liked.
I did so many runs myself and with passengers that I didn't actually get to try anyone elses car, but that’s probably because I was enjoying the RGT2 so much.
The beauty of Porsche/Ruf was highlighted again by being able to just keep doing back-to-back runs in the afternoon, when the queue cleared.
Running side-by-side with the Rturbo to near 190mph was a great experience, although I have to admit it did pull slightly away from mine, which I think is partly down to the small problem I had been experiencing since the drive up (excuses I know but it felt like it was retarding the igntion above 6,000 rpm).
I did think that the timing beam seemed to be placed a shorter distance down the runway than before, which might explain why the speeds were slightly lower than previous events.
Another great point was when I caught a huge slide (no electronic trickery in GT2s…..) onto the main runway at about 100mph and miraculously held it for the whole runway width.
Guy (and the Ruf RGT2)
PS Did the 360 CS have an exhaust? Sounded totally amazing……….
Good to see you guy, the car looked fanbloodytastic, hope someone got some piccies, I cleverly forgot my camera, doh!
The timing beams in the afternoon were in the same place as we've had before, however, we were lacking the 15-30mph headwind we had at VmaxIV which could have accounted for the speed differences.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Agree with all the comments - a quite superb day out. Big thanks to Craig for being the organiser supreme and so super friendly; to Greg & Emma for their v generous and delicious hospitality at the start of the day; and to Daz for the invitation to come along.
The early morning convoy of vehicles from Greg's house to Bruntingthorpe was the stuff of dreams - 993RS, 360 Stradale, Ultima, Jag XKR, 993 Turbo X50, 993 Turbo DeR, Boxster S, and my little 968 somewhere in the middle of this hunting pack. The acceleration and noise generated was mind blowing, and I had the pleasure of attempting to sit behind the Stradale and the Ultima for several miles whilst they tested in gear acceleration along some lovely country roads - exhaust notes to die for!
Amusing moment when this convoy of cars pulled into a small garage for fuel near Bruntingthorpe, to find that the only other vehicle there was a police car refuelling. After a double take and a moments contemplation, I believe his parting words were "Have a fun day gentleman"
The day was a great social occasion, meeting lots of new PH'ers, and having the pleasure of rides in some superb machinery. Thanks to Guy in his Ruf Turbo - awesome is the only word, almost more so in the braking department, and my first ride above 180 mph; to Paul for my first ever ride in a Ferrari, red 360 convertible, and I can honestly now tell anyone who'll listen that the first time I got a ride in a Ferrari I was doing 165 mph within 30 seconds of shutting the door Thanks to Daz for my second ever ride above 180 mph, and for some very useful tips on lines and braking points which saved my brakes from some substantial wear during the day; and my final ride of the day with Simon in the 993 Turbo DeR, a very special beast, and the car was nice too. A great race ensued off the line with a 996 tweaked Turbo, and lasted all the way back through the twisties to the parking point - excellent fun!
It was encouraging? to hear that speeds were a bit down on some previous occasions, as my little 968 was averaging 148mph, but cracked the 150 mph during the day, whilst reading 160 mph on the speedo.
I took a few photos during the day, so will post them in the other photos thread.

It will be the Lindisfarne's first hippy commune with a private race track and a fleet of loopy motors. So come on DeR, put your feet up!
Fantastic day.
Seeing the XKR boil its brake fluid was entertaining, and a prize also goes to that for the biggest smokiest spin!
The little CSL managed 164 in the morning and I reckon would have seen another 2 or so mph in the afternoon with the timing gear moved further back. But the tyre went and had a "Brazilian" and stopped play.
I reckon it was the fastest car on to the straight, as those cup tyres are awesome! Got a bit sideways once in front of the Ferrari Spider and must have frightened him, as he was miles behind at the timing gear!
Gonna bring something next time to frighten those pesky steroid taking beetles ...612bhp and 1,000NM. 190+ I reckon.... Just got to pick it up in August and drive to Affalterbach to have the irksome limiter removed

Ah, the 3-pointed star. Now they really ARE turning out some kit perfectly suited to Vmax madness (once the limiters are removed).
Were you following me in the M3 CSL at the begininng of the day round the twisties- that was fun
What is this new car you are picking up?
all the best
adam
:edit: IF it is a merc SL/CL 65 then congrats but i think unless you remove the limiter you wont see past 155, also my friend with a Brabus SV12 (SL class) with 640bhp and 1040NM hit 186mph at brunters last time

What speeds were you doing onto the straight? Should have tried the Ultima on the twisties!
Forgot my mate's DL1! I was taking the line to the outside of the runway and on the exit the car was touching 130 (speedo) which means that it was probably at around 95 at the apex, but that is not sacrosanct as I was containing 1.3g and waiting to be caught out by some of those bumps! The CSL has amazing stoppers (I saw your AP setup) which are similar to yours (6 pot AP with Pagid yellows), except I have to haul 1.3 tonnes to a halt rather than the bag of sugar the ultima weighs!
Can I bring the GSXR as well next time? (after I repair it from the off I had at RAF Odiham trackday on Saturday!)
Seen 186 on the speedo and the revs still rising. Like to know the true speed....
I assume if it is a no that the expensive car mafia will be boycotting the event as they don't want to be upstaged
