Wings and wheels Dunsfold August 23 and 24.
Discussion
I left at 5:50 yesterday afternoon, finally got out of the queue leaving the airfield at 6:30. If I'd have gone the more direct way home I'd have spent longer in a queue but went through Dunsfold village and headed towards Plaistow and Billingshurst, got home about twenty mins after getting out of the queue.
I tried to get there this morning and gave up and turned round and went back home. That was having went the long way round to use the A281 from the direction of Ockley instead of from Guildford so it's anyone's guess how bad it is from that direction. Then got caught in a massive jam a few miles from home on the Leatherhead by pass.Surrey's roads are just a traffic and/or cyclist clogged mess today.

Strewth! Glad I went so early yesterday. I arrived at about 08:30 and drove straight in and parked outside the gate.Mind you, it was a hellish early start and is definitely one of the reasons why it took me so long to get out at the end of the day.

So we left the house at 9am and Dunsfold is 1 hour away. We got in at about 1pm! The queues were huge to get in, just too many people try to get in. The queue to get into the event once on foot, was another half an hour and we found a queue that about 1/10th of the other one! Queues for food, that's another half an hour.
It took about 45 minutes to get out, we actually pulled over and watched the Apache as we weren't going anywhere.
Put simply, it was over subscribed by a long way.
Had there been only 50% of the people there, it would have been a brilliant day. Great line up of planes, nice stalls and side attractions and it certainly didn't feel over commercial as other shows can.

Great event. Got there early around 8.15am and no traffic but later was rammed. The even put FULL signs up in the afternoon and turned cars away. Great event but early is the answer. Lots to see and do. Perfect weather as well. Bit of a q getting out but that's expected. Great show imo.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, fantastic! Unfortunately I haven't got a suitable camera.I think with these sort of events you have to face facts that if your not willing to get there early then you will get stuck in a queue somewhere along the line. I also tend to take my own food so don't have to queue for that or pay over the odds.

In the case of a too popular oversubscribed event whereby they don't apply advanced rationed ticket sales only. Then it's obvious that the answer of 'leave early' logically eventually just turns into an arms race of the same massive traffic jams stuck there overnight waiting to get in.
I'd agree, however logic leaves the window when trying to get out of the house with a nearly 3 year old little boy! Candellara said:
Seems like fun.It would be interesting to find out if they arrange anything like that at other times or only during the Wings/Wheels event and if so what are the requirements.Big problem of arriving early was that you are back of the queue to get out.....a brilliant day spoilt by 2 hours to get out of car park...no marshals to be seen to filter the cars and deal with issues.....(like the punch up).
Venue just doesn't have the infrastructure.......it's a great event and run I would expect by great people, but it's become such a popular event it needs proper marshalling for the car park and investment in the roads or the same will happen year after year.
And don't get me started on the muppets doing donuts in the show ring covering everyone in dust ... !!!!

We were going to do the demo runs, filled in the forms on the website many weeks ago as a few of us did, unfortunately even though the system said we were registered, the system then ate all the applications by the time we discovered found it was all too late. I think they lost loads of electronic forms, so next year it will be the old fashioned way by letter and the post service. Obviously this internet thingy doesn't work too well! Have fun, will miss it!
The organisers apologised for the problems and will be changing the process for next year so you get a positive acknowledgment of your application being received.Chris99 said:

Indeed they did! My dad and I (sthotfast) managed to get last minute tickets which was great and had a fantastic day out on the runway demosGassing Station | Events & Meetings | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
