I'm stopping at Hinkley Island on Friday. Look out for a tattooed guy with a big moustache and a noisy old Lotus.

Asida will be laying on minibuses to shuttle to and from a couple of local pubs . So you can relax and have a drink with an evening meal .

All, slightly getting cold feet after looking at more photos from previous years. I'm coming in this:

...which is obviously very underwhelming and will be deeply uncool given the company.

Although I'll happily go harry-flatters all day to entertain passengers, will I actually get any or would I just be wasting track time for everyone else?

So for those that have been before - what's your honest opinion?

There are some excellent "gastro" pubs very close to Bruntingthorpe, including The Joiners Arms in Bruntingthorpe and The Grey Goose in Gilmorton. The Red Lion in Gilmorton is also excellent and a little cheaper than the other two.
I live in Gilmorton and have plenty of secure space if anyone needs to park a trailer or cars etc. If so, send me a PM.

Come anyway. You may or may not get some passengers, but even if you don't it's a cracking day out. Besides, judging from the grin on your passenger's face, I'll come out with you!

this can apply to any car at various times - a lot of passengers even turned their nose up at three different Fezzas whilst waiting for the only Atom last year so don't feel bad things change by the hour or even minute depending on who's queueing(+) - so enjoy yourself

obviously if you're not getting suceesive runs then please pass your landard over to another driver waiting and take a rest for a while(+)

please remember your spare helmets for your pasengers particularly in open, and drop top cars

personally I think in tin tops if the driver wears a helmet then they should have spare helments for all their passengers or not wear a helmet themselves

(+) the passengers don't have to queue, well not for long anyway, but they chose to queue waiting for their car of choice - so drivers please let the booking desk know when your car is off and going on the track once you get a lanyard

I've still got some capacity on the midshires gate if anyone wants to get some extra laps in, or if the other gate is over-subscribed. Send me a pm if interested :-)

I'm out frown

Turbine housing and bearings are dead. Turbo is being rebuilt, but won't be back on the car for this weekend.

I'm gutted - but will be back next year!

Hope you all have a great day.

Chaps,

Can someone clarify this matter of helmets to me please? I have my own helmet but no spares for passengers. What are we obliged to do? I don't intend to put anyone in any danger, but equally would like to look after my own bonce if possible.

Cheers,

Chev.

it's all up to Steve he's in charge

as yours is a fixed top car you don't need to wear a helmet or your passenger

just my personal opinion - if you wear a helmet then surely your passenger needs to in your opinion, surely any passenger at any time is more important than you as your responsibility as the driver, if you feel you need a helmet why doesn't your passenger need a helmet? - just my opinion

if a passenger, or their parents or guardians, sees you in a helmet they may want a helmet too so if you could borrow a spare it would save hunting round for a helmet each time if these occasion rise

as I’ve said Steve is the man in charge, I’m sure if you turn up with just one helmet and you want to wear it and if a passenger wants to wear a helmet too we’ll find one from somewhere

Can someone just run through the procedure "on the day"? I'll likely be getting there about 9am, so I hand over my ticket & £5 at the gate, then I need to park the tow car (where?) & offload the Westie, then what? Presumably, there's some kind of signing on ("I promise that if I end up dead, I won't sue anyone"!), then find our gate (Gate 12 - the last one) - Are they signposted? Do I need to make myself known to anyone? And what are these lanyards of which you speak? Is there a driver's briefing (there was the year I came last)? When & where?

Sorry 'bout the dumb questions, but it's been a few years since I did this, and some things seem to have changed (the "lanyards", for example) and last time we turned up "mob handed" with the TVRCC ...

(Oh, I'll be wearing a helmet and bringing a spare. The wind in a Westie at 100mph+ is pretty fierce... And I remember the HGVs - do they still cut across the track on the final bend?)

Open top car and I don't have a helmet. frown

Still, probably not a problem as nobody seems to want to go out in a Chim and if they do they head up to the TVRCC
