I can't imagine anyone saying " off" to anyone at a Vmax*, it's just not like that. So saying it in the first place, not just to the owner of the place, was out of character for the day anyway.

*In fact you're more likely to hear "would you like to drive my car, mate?"

Let me just clarify : As I was waiting to have my run ( at about 3ish ) the owner came over and said "you can't run in that, it's too loud, you'll f**k it up for everyone else". He did not actually tell me to f**k off. I did not know who he was ( but I suspected ) so I just said "well, ok then" and pulled over to the side. That was it really.

I meant whoever told the owner to off before he spoke to you, or maybe I've got my wires crossed (wouldn't be the first time)

Fair do's to Craig, he sent me 3 emails warning me about the noise limits and I came at my own risk, just like everyone else. They were definitely cutting me some slack letting my car through the sound checks, so I didn't take the piss, and ended up running just a few times; it's just a bit of fun at the weekend for us, but it's the circuit-owners livliehood and we don't want to feck it up for future events. The Tubi NGT I had on the car the first time was a development model and quite a bit louder than the one on it now. Still.

When stuff like this comes up I'm always reminded of this chap who built a Kart circuit near Cromer- it was in a clearing in a forested area. Bastard to find it was tucked away so well. He said he couldn't run 2 strokes because of complaints of noise by the neighbours. What neighbours?? He told me "you'd be amazed how many neighbours you've got if you're doing something they don't like".

We are not trying to aggrevate you guys, and we don't want to fall out with any of you, but My dad did ask before the event for cars to be either properly silenced or not bother coming. We as a family are completely car mad and we love to see you guys here with all your different cars, but due to the recent Environmental Protection Act, specifically relating to noise polution, we just cant allow noisy vehicles to run and breach our planning permission - this states that all vehicles using the test track must be silenced to road legal standards. ie; vehicle type approval! Aftermarket exhausts often do not comply with type approval. My dad did not tell any of you to f**k off, he told "you" the truth that you were f**king it up for everyone else!! and i myself told a few of you with the noisy cars that you could not run.

We have had the Council's Environmental Health Officer on the telephone today seaking information about yesterdays activities because they have recieved many complaints. This is just what we were trying to avoid!!

I will say it again... We love cars! and noise!! but we just are not allowed to make it any more or we could very easily have to close brunty as a test track down, and we do not want that to happen as too many airfield and other sites are being closed due to the same reasons!

Matt

How can you fight this. If the council win you will loose a a lot of business. Bog stand Ferrari are type approved but over 4k the bypass opens and all hell brakes loose. Still think on vmax the vulcan should be used to keep the locals happy!

Matt, apologies, i got my wires crossed and it wasn't your dad that said F*** off to anyone, I just misconstrued what he said to Snuffy. I completely understand your situation and overall it was a great day.

I know it's your fault. My only concern is that if a standard 911 turbo can't get through the noise test then things like Ferrari's, etc with bypass valves will instantly fail even with stock exhausts. Need to try a work round if possible with your's and Craigs help.

Matt I hope it does not come to that and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say I am sorry if we have played any part in causing you guy's any stress or problems. Something I did notice yesterday that is probably just as large a contributory factor is that passing through the village on the way back and in the morning I got several disapproving looks, and scowls (normally the 550 turns heads for other reasons!!)

I suppose I am just wondering if a large part of the issue is all the tasty and lets all be honest most of them pretty loud even on standard pipes motors passing through the village on a quiet Sunday morning earlyish and again in the afternoon when I am sure many folks are fast asleep in front of the telly after the usual Sunday feast etc...

I know I also overtook an old dear in a Punto when I got onto the A5199, I am sure we all do similar.

I speak from a bit of experience on this from the other side of the fence, I used to live in Burton-on-the-Wolds and the locals there were forever petitioning against Prestwold Hall which ran similar days on the Wymeswold areodrome, they did the red letter days etc etc. The talk from the vocal locals in the boozer was always very focused on the perceived behavior of the drivers after the events and the red letter guy's driving through the village to fill up at approx 1400 every Sat and Sun during the Summer. One of the daft things is on various occasions I heard complaints in the boozer from some dumass local about being overtaken on the road upto the A46 by a silver Ferrari blaming the folks at Prestwold Hall when in reality on a few occasions I knew it was me!! I would say as much and they would say it was all part of the same problem, some folks will never be happy and I think there is allot of jealousy from some of them that I knew for certain the others simply have nothing better to do with their lives. Can you believe they continually tried to recruit me to the cause knowing I was a petrol head with a Fezza in the garage!!

I'm interested in how they come to the conclusion that the cars have to be road legal and what is actually meant by road legal...

Just because a vehicle does not meet type approval, does not mean it is no longer road legal.

i know ferraris get lots lauder as the valves in the exhaust open up, we have 5 of them, and out of all of them the only one that wouldnt fail our noise limit is a standard 355. We never seem to have any problems with most of the normal Vmaxers tuned cars ie GuyR's and Adam's Rufs, which are very highly tuned but still manage to be quite quet at the same time. Stredale 360s are noisy as standard, I know, but that is not my probem! that is the owner's if they want to bring it on a day like Vmax.
You can all be as noisy and drive however you like on the roads to and from brunty, believe me, you cannot be any worse than ME! but we cannot afford to have any more complaints reguarding noise on our site!

Matt I did attend a couple of the meetings that the Prestwold lot organized with the locals to try and iron out the issues etc, which did work I might add - well they were at peace when I moved out last year!

One of the things that swung it for them (prestwold) was that they managed to get most of the complainants to admit that the noise from the actual track was not the major issue it was more the issues they had with folks driving outside the site. One of the major compromises they made I think was to get everyone; their visitors and red letter day folks to a) take a different route not through the village and b) agree to keep the racing on the circuit!!

Don't know if you have tried anything similar but it may be worth a try.

i also wonder, whether there has been any direct negotiation with the complainants? are there any locals actually fighting brunters case for them and are their voices being heard. i fear the worse as quite clearly the sights but more importantly the sounds of vmax will change forever.

thanks ian, to be honest, we have tried that approach in the past and we are constantly fighting a battle about the traffic we have in the week to brunty, ie: transporters and lorrys etc, but there is nothing we can really do about it because we have stopped them all coming through as many villages as we can but they have to travel through some to be able to get here. At weekends when i am sitting in my garden, the amount of really fast and noisy cars and especially motorbikes that fly through the villages can be heard so easily and i think the villagers just think that they are coming here when they are not, they are just going for a thrash in the country!

The annoying thing is there is only a handful of people who ever complain! and it is always the same lot that complain every time. When i go down the local pub all everyone is talking about is, how they heard or saw an amazing lambo or ferrari earlier for example so most people actually like it!

We just have to be a bit more carfull that is all, because until now we have been i little too leaneant.

Matt, fair enough if you have tried then thats all you can do in many ways, like I said I think allot of the issues I came across before were based on the perceived problems caused by Prestwold when in fact it was others not from there (some decent roads that way used by bikers and Sunday blast drivers too). I even put my hand up in the meeting to admit I was one of the non Prestwold culprits (which I would like to think helped!) who they were moaning about (local copper there gave me a stern look!! oops!). In fact I have even been out your way a few times as my mum lives in Crick and I use the A5199 if I go there after being in Leicester I use that road sometimes for a giggle, its a blast in places as I am sure you know...

Well I am sure if there is anything we have to do to keep VMAX alive at Brunters then we will I am sure to a man comply after all we all want to keep on having our fun and you guy's have a business to protect!

Hi Matt,

I hope you didn't construe any of my comments as critical of your dad or the outfit you run. I thought someone had said they heard someone say (that factual, I know) off to your dad) which I thought would have been a) well out of order and b) properly stupid.

I have always enjoyed days at Brunters and can only imagine the amount of hassle you guys get from the aforementioned numpties.

Cheers

Sam
