Hi all, really appreciate the kind words of thanks from everyone, shame the weather sucked but it was great to see some true die hards still mental enough to come along! My car looks like it's been through a river today! Wet weather certainly exaggerates the undulations in the roads doesn't it, I'm normally fairly comfortable on those roads but the slippery surface was prettty off-putting, made every little niggle feel like it had the potential to flip me into a ditch!

RochesterTVR - really surprised and sorry to hear about the grounding, I've tested that road several times and never found anything I'd have thought remotely troublesome, and, as I said, over the rest of the route there doesn't seem to be any problems. Believe me, I did route testing to avoid dubious bumps in a Tiger Cat, so if there was a flatter route I'd have taken it!

Ok, an announcement

I PLAN TO DO THE ROUTE PROPERLY THIS SUNDAY (WEATHER PERMITTING)

All timings, routes and arrangements remail the same, only the date will change.

Hopefully we'll have the full turnout and a much less stressful drive!

Cheers,

Jay

Thats ok mate, I think if I go again this weekend coming ill skip the first section and join at the maidstone services in the hope that the roads from there on are less bumpy.

Also ill proberly try to arrange to convoy with other low cars (Ultima's, TVR's etc) so the pace is adjusted to suit avoiding any damage.

Either that or I leave the Sag at home and take the BMW, or even leave out the run entirely and just meet up at the finish point.

Either way ill make an appearence.

Cheers
Lee
Glad you'll be along in any guise, but to reassure you the Ultima last time made no complaints

Hi Jay / everyone

I'll be there but will most probably be meeting you all at the second stop off point ( where we started before) as we have a bit of a late one on Sat night. What time do you reckon you'll all get to the second meeting place?

See yer there

J
You should get there for 6.40 ish at the latest to be safe, but no earlier than 6.

Hi all, thanks for all the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the route.

It's a bit of a shame that the weather wasn't with us last week, as the postponement coupled with the Bank Holiday weekend clearly had a massive effect on numbers - after the 65 or so that turned up back in June, I really want to get another big gathering together!

However - Jules and Chris - that was an exceptional blat in the first section. No traffic, fantastic roads, breathtaking views and beautiful dawn weather conditions. What a refreshing start to the day!

The second section was pretty cool too, and then we got to Rye...

Parked up, spent my 80p on the ticket machine, nipped to the lav and didn't even get the chance to do my business before I received a phone call...

"We have a problem..."

Someone had passed an incident, so off I went see what had happened and help in any way I could.

At the top of Military Road, I came across a rather sorry looking TVR. And some damaged fencing. And evidence of the mother of all tank slappers sliding god-knows-how-far along the thin, wet, grassy, tree and sheep littered embankment next to a precarious drop into a canal. Jeeeeeeesus.

The occupants were largely unhurt but for a few cuts caused by the driver's window smashing in on them, but the car looked less than pristine with damage to the driver's side and front end, however the wheels were still in place and the last suggestion I got was that it would be driveable once all the glass had been cleared from the seats.

Apparently, as the driver was pulling in from overtaking a tractor he was faced with an oncoming squirrel. Cue predictable result of the combination of quick steering inputs, rear wheel drive, lots of power and no electronic aids. Unfortunately, the squirrel copped it anyway. Police attended the scene and are treating its death as 'suspicious.'

So then, once the police and ambulance had arrived I left to find my patient comrades in Rye, looking forward to some good, hardy tucker. I got no more than two corners from the Tuscan before I came across a stricken motorcyclist laying across the middle of the road at the end of several hundred feet of skid marks, which initially headed towards the canal but were bounced back into the road by a small grass verge. This was very serious. I called Karim (Medic) and the ambulance crew from the Tuscan incident. From later reports, the biker suffered a number of very broken bones and lost a lot of skin, but wasn't in a life threatening condition.

I hope it isn't too vulgar but I've decided to satisfy public curiosity with these small and censored images. They are all anyone would want to see - the first shows the beginning of the skids and 'x' marks the spot where the biker/bike hit the verge and bounced back into the road. The second shot was taken from the 'x' and the third, although difficult to see from this angle, shows how incredible a job the chopper pilot had to do - with hedges to one side and a canal to the other he had to hover over that 4 feet of verge with his blades clipping the hedges on the other side of the road to allow unloading and loading. Amazing.

The road was closed off and turned into an investigation scene, so after a while waiting to be released from my position between the police blockades I headed back up Military road and worked my way down to Rye again. From Rye, what with all the delays, the run was less than brilliant thanks to all the built up traffic and at Tenterden Jules (grey Elise) and I lost the pack behind us. After waiting a while in Tenterden high street we were about to head off and make our way to the Woodman when an acquaintance of mine in a 310 bhp Honda'd series 1 Exige passed by, so we followed him to the A21 before making our way to the finish. Where the food was lovely, and after an embarassing few minutes looking sheepish around the landlord (who'd been prepared for a somewhat larger crowd) I heard the rumble of a TVR V8, and saw DonnyMac and the rest pulling in. The food was lovely and it was at least a pleasant rest, and great to catch up with everyone after what was an eventful, and very unusual run!

Cheers all,

Jay
