An early morning romp across the best roads the South Downs can offer. We're meeting at 7am for a 7:30 departure from Ockham Common, next to junction 10 on the M25.

We'll be heading, in a roundabout sort of way, to the Hayling Island Sailing Club for breakfast by the sea. It's a very twisty little route so we'd encourage everybody to use the 'leave no man behind' principle. If you always make sure you can see the car behind you (the car in front will do the same) then we shouldn't lose anybody.

Maps, route notes and sat-nav files are available from the FB5K downloads area.

Yes I've driven the route and yes it's very rural. It's a proper twisty back-country run. It should be ok for an Ultima though. If you're bothered about dirtying the car behind you're welcome to run in front of mine, I don't care... or SlvrCrb... he wouldn't even notice!

There's sat-nav files and good route notes here, so there's no need for anybody to feel pressured to drive beyond their comfort zone. I'd expect a mix of different paces, as usual.

Generally speaking, when you're trying to stay together in a large group it's the cars at the back that will be driving the fastest. If you're keen to stay with the pack I'd recommend being up the front. It also means if you lose your way you can pull over and wait for a backmarker to follow.

And the roads will be '6am empty' too driving

Sleep is for old people anyway.

All that lying around with your eyes shut... bores me to tears. I'd much rather be hacking down empty B roads. There's something delicious about being out misbehaving while the rest of the world has its back turned.

The route has traditionally had groups split into different paces: brisk, rapid & warp speed.

Anybody running with the tomtom file should be confident leading a group. I don't mind leading the warp speed group driving

Weather's looking ok after a bit of a surprise miserable one today. I apologise in advance as I think I may run with the hood on - feeling a little bit fragile. Proper terminal case of man flu and bugger all sleep since Thursday.

See you all in a few hours for a spot of dogging.
