As a follow-up to last year's PH Clay meet at Bisley I propose a second event at Bisley Shooting Ground, located on Bisley Camp (home of the National Shooting Centre) - assuming of course that there is sufficient interest.

I'm planning to make a small change from the last time in order that the more experienced shots can get a bit more shooting.

This will mean that we'll have to organise ourselves into novice and experienced shots.

Other than that I expect it to be much the same as previously:

- weekend morning (actual date TBD, but thinking May)
- meet at the BSG clubhouse around 0900-0930
- shoot for 2 hours, perhaps with a little competition to finish
- adjourn to local hostelrie for lunch

Based on my discussions with Bisley Shooting Ground yesterday, cost will be around £79 for beginners (100 clays and cartridges plus tuition and gun hire if required, ie same as last year) and £91 for experienced shots (200 clays and cartridges and guide, as distinct from tuition, and gun hire if required).

Basically the difference is in the level of tuition expected and the degree to which the instructor/guide will push each group.

BSGs website is here: www.bisleyshooting.co.uk/
The National Shooting Centre website is here: www.nsc-bisley.co.uk/

Expressions of interest, questions and queries, all here please.

Great idea re: novice/experienced.

What numbers do we need to make it viable?

Great.

Oh, just a handful for each group I think - four or five. More than that and we'll be split into groups of that size anyway.

Ok, to clarify a few questions:

1. Complete beginners are no problem at all, obviously you'll be part of the novice group, however, its worth remembering that even that group is likely to be split up further: there will be no more than 4 or 5 people per instructor/guide. If we have 5 total beginners you can all go together and learn together.

2. Cartridges, yes you can use your own but they must be felt or fibre wads, no plastic wads at BSG, though lead is fine. It'll be slightly cheaper if you do this - I'll have to check the exact pricing. Bear in mind that Bisley's own cartridges are fairly cheap - re-branded Eley IIRC - so it won't be massively cheaper.

3. Gun hire, if required, is included, whether you class yourself as novice or experienced

btw, last year we used Bisleys own loads, which were Fibre and only 24gm !

24 grams ! No wonder my score was poor.......

The flurry was great fun tho.Red hot barrells anyone ?

F

As above fibre (or felt) only at BSG.

Better make sure we ask for their 28gm cartridges then ...

They must have been the blue sub-sonics they sometimes have, on the plus side they are very light for beginners though ...

Anyone else feel free to add yourself to the list.

In a week or so I'll propose some dates and we'll take it from there.

Oh, and if I've misrepresented anyone's PH ID feel free to put me right ...

As there are so many - can we have an intermediate group? I need to get my average up, so I still want the full tuition of the novice group and so expect it to take as long with the 100 rounds, but I don't really want the 'this is the dangerous end' pep talks.

Surely an intermediate group should be at about the 150+ bird level?

Dave's just sandbagging! He hates to lose.......ask Mel :

Assuming there are enough "novices" for there to be two (or more) groups of 4 or 5 people then it should be perfectly possible to have a slightly more experenced than novice group and a beginners group. That should achieve what you want.

Obviously it depends totally on who actually turns up and how that classify themselves, but it should work.

Shot .22 and clay at school but the only weapons i've picked up in the last 15 years have been handguns when my cousin and i go to Shooters Express. So i'd have to class myself as a clay novice...

I'll start asking for people to state their level of expertise and so on when we've nailed down the date and we know exactly who is coming.

I'm now away for a few days, but I'll try to speak to Bisley on Friday to get some possible dates and we can take it from there.

From the posts so far, I'm assuming that a Saturday or Sunday is preferred (with a bit of a bias towards Sunday).

Dan, I would say based on last time, its going to be lot easier and quicker to nail say two dates to the mast and count numbers from there.

Looks like theres even more support than last year, so should be fun.

Oh, if you need any help organising owt, drop me a pm.

Cheers

OK, suggested dates are either: Sunday 6 May or Sunday 13 May. Both mornings - start around 0930, shoot for two hours then pub lunch.

Please vote here for your preference.

Hmm, my mistake then, I didn't mean to do that.

Might make the 7th a possibility. Sorry all, I'll rethink and (possibly) post new dates tonight.

OK, all, so far that looks like the 13th is the clear winner.

I've mailed a few people who have not yet posted as to preferred dates, and a few who joined us last year and haven't yet posted on this thread.

I'm now away over Easter and plan to make a final call regarding the date next Wednesday, 11th April.

cheers

Dan

Would I be welcome?

You most certainly would.

Add your name to the list preferably under the day(s) that are suitable.

OK, so that looks like a clear win for the 13th to me. Apologies to those who can only make the 6th.

Therefore, I will provisionally confirm the 13th to Bisley, with numbers to follow.

Would all those who have put their name down and can make the 13th, please email me (through my profile) confirm that you still want to come and provide the following information for each:

1. PH ID
2. Real name
3. Level of experience

Regarding the level of experience please use the following categories:

A: total novice - either you've never shot before, or it was so long ago you've forgotten who was The Doctor at the time;

B: novice - you've shot a bit/recently, but not extensively, and you would prefer less shooting and more instruction

C: Experienced - you shoot regularly/recently and just want to shoot

As I described earlier in the thread, and assuming the numbers work out I will put groups A and B into the "novice" category (100 clays/cartridges with instruction and gun hire if required, £79) but will aim to further group people such that total novices are in one (or more) groups and novices are together in one (or more) groups in order that the instruction can be more tailored. Group C will go into the "Experienced" category (200 clays/cartidges with guide, gun hire if required, £91).

Any questions post here or email me.

cheers

Dan
