PistonHeads Sunday Service: 12/12/10
In time-honoured tradition we return to Mercedes-Benz World for the final Sunday Service of 2010
Mid-December. A time when the town centre is gridlocked with shoppers trying to find a space, and you have the annual arguement with the other half about where to spend Christmas Day. In a word, it's dull.
But just for a day you can forget the shops and the prospect of all those unwanted house guests, and head to Mercedes-Benz World for the last PH Sunday Service of 2010 - taking place on Sunday 12th December between 09.00 and 13.00.
Many of you will be no strangers to the MBW facility as we have visited quite a few times now, so you will know that it serves as a very good winter venue with plenty of tarmac parking and a huge warm, indoor space - with lots to look at - should the weather be unkind to us on the day.
PH Sunday meets are simple in format, all you need to do is turn up (for free), park your car amongst fellow PHers, then head off for some breakfast and a cup of coffee. It's the perfect, frippery-free way to start a Sunday morning. However, our hosts occasionally like to lay on some extra attractions for PHers to make the morning even more special, and Mercedes-Benz have done just that.
Some of you might have heard of the SLS AMG, in fact it has been pretty hard to ignore (and who's complaining about that?). Well now is your chance to sample it, as passenger rides will be available throughout the morning. For those who like their Mercedes aged to perfection (like me) you can choose to take your passenger ride in none-other than the original gullwing hero, the 1954 300SL. Rides will be offered on a first come- first served basis (assuming PH staff haven't block-booked all the spaces before you arrive). Both rides will be charged at £10.
If that's not to your liking, you can always head inside to see the fantastic 'hanging' Mercedes Petronas F1 car recently installed comprising of 3200 genuine F1 parts. 'View Suspended II' has been created by Dutch artist Paul Veroude to demonstrate what goes into a modern Formula 1 car, and while it isn't intended to be an exact replica it is entirely representative of current F1 technology, and deconstructs the car down to the gear ratios. Well worth a look while you are there.
For this meeting, we will be parking along the main straight to the right of the entrance road to Mercedes Benz World. Not only is this area smooth and weather-proof, it can hold 700 cars, so for the second time in a row we can open this to a huge number of PHers.
As per usual, we ask you to sign up on the calendar if you plan to attend this PH meet. By signing up you will be allocated a space on the day, and as we check names on the 'gate' you need to ensure your name is on the list to be guaranteed entry.
Thanks once again to the fellows at Mercedes-Benz World for their hospitality, and don't forget that while the PistonHeads element finishes at 13.00 M-BW will be open for the rest of the day. We look forward to seeing you there.
As this is a Mercedes event, I am bringing my trusty classic W124 Estate and was wondering if it is OK to also bring the family (wife and two young boys) along to the event ?
Will this be OK ?
Oh, and I'll ask Mr Will to look at the calendar issue too, sorry chaps.
Also, I can't seem to edit my Calendar entry, won't be bringing the BM as I've just laid it up for the winter and the battery is now annoying my wife in the lounge
Will be in a company Volvo of one sort or another, most likely either the V60 or new S60 if anyone fancies a fiddle.
I might change my car too......
What's the set up for any trade on Sunday? Never sold work at a show before, but was hoping to have some drawings for sale (Artist). Don't want to step on anyone's toes by setting up shop without even asking, especially at a basically free event.
Anyone I need to PM? any other arrangements I need to make? Not really talking about a full on stall or anything, just a few pieces of work on a borrowed table
Advice appreciated. Cheers
Best to leave the merchandise at home, even leafleting is frowned upon by attendees.
Answers to a few questions:
Bring who you like as a passenger, no problem at all
Parking is restricted to 700 in the PH area, but the public areas will be opened as usual
No trading please
As far as I know, you will not be kicked out at 13.00, but I'm sure the marshals will advise us on the day
Let me know if I've missed any....
We'll see you tomorrow, thanks guys
