OK Time to do some more on the car.
The car is actually away at OJZ again, to have boost pipes & inlet runners fabricated + a couple of extra bosses welded into the exhaust.

So while the car is away I have started to work on the gearbox. I have a few used alfa 164 5 Speed boxes, but managed to source an unused one, so that is the one that I will be using. It will be fitted with the integrale strengtening plate and an LSD (plate type) from AHM.

Box is dismantled & the casing away with a mate for machining to allow the plate to be fitted.

Thats some butter fetish you have going on there, nice work btw.

Just been to OJZ to position the fittings on th eboost pipes. Below are the photos of the boost pipes tacked together - Superb pipe work from Lance, no gaps anywhere!

Its getting very full in the engine compartment now!

Better than good !

What sort of boost are you looking to run ? Is that the only type of chargecooler you have room for ?

I am planning to run in th eregion of 1.3-1.5 bar depends on various factors, The goal is around 500BHP. That could be limited by the 0.82A/R turbine housing but we wont really know until we try - there is no other similar engine to get a decent idea from.

As for the Charge cooler, there is very little room for an air/air unit in the back of a stratos, so water/ air cooling it had to be - there is a huge pre rad up front & the guys at PWR assure me it will work. Their assurance is based on running a similar set up on a rear engined race car with 500BHP, I have the same charge cooler, but a bigger pre-rad. Again I wont know until it runs, if it isnt a success, then its back to PWR to come up with a solution.....

Next is to groove the adaptors on the head to fit an o-ring seal instead of the paper gasket...

Here is a test i made on a spare inlet adapter..

An o-ring in there should hold the boost without any trouble.

Also the new stainless pipes were not beaded (no beader at OJZ as he normally only does exhausts)

I got myself a beader yesterday & did a test bead on one of the inlet runners - Considering the tool isnt supposed to do stainless, it worked well....

Neil,

Where did you find the beader and what's it's min & max diameters that it can work with?

Phil,

The tool was from Viper Performance - the silicone hose guys. They say it only does alloy, but it managed ok on stainless - i just took it easy.

The roller is 16mm, so minimum size is 16mm bore & it will do upto 100mm pipe. Even more if you adapted the mounting plate......

Cheers

Make sure you keep it well lube'd during the beading process otherwise they have a tendancy to gawl the rollers............... (expensive lesson to learn, luckily enough someone else was paying..... ;-)

Once I get the car finished ......... It will be out & about - cant say where or when yet though.
I am hoping to get it on the road for next summer, so it wont be at Stoneleigh next year, but it will be somewhere I can post where & when once its up and running.

I Just hope it dosent dissappoint when you see it.
