Unless you are thinking of making a VERY large amount of power (>250bhp/l) then there is no point in using the diesel block just to get a different gearbox imo. Diesels make huge cylinder pressure at low rpm to make high power, with a petrol engine with twice the rev capability you don't need to make such huge cylinder pressure and hence don't need such a strong block. Much much easier just to make a gearbox adaptor plate to mate the stronger box to the gasoline block!
that was kind of the idea, to use the various diesel engines jaguar use, in conjunction with the petrol heads to create a petrol engine in a strong diesel block with all the stronger components from the diesel engines (ie pistons, rods, crank, head bolts, and bearings) but maybe an adaptor plate is easier for now

I really wonder what goes on in your head sometimes.

Lol. I try to stay well out of the fantasy tuning threads. I take a similar view on www.homebrainsurgery.com when people ask "My son has epilepsy which I'd like to cure. I've got the Black and Decker and some drill bits. I just need to know which bit of the skull to drill into now. Can anyone help?"

Many, many "what if" scenarios generally

Why not just take the jag 3.0ltr v6 unit and get the bottom end built? They have pretty decent flowing top ends.

If the gearbox lets to then you can look for an alternative. Guessing something like a TKO for T5 would be strong enough.

Diesel gearbox has the same bolt pattern as a v8 petrol. I believe.
Didn't know that, wonder if they mate up properly

Just swapping the gearboxes and tuning the original engine is going to be the best option.
Putting petrol heads on the diesel is just a really mental idea. It wouldn't work, assuming that it would fit, (which they don't) you'd need: new timing chain/belt setup, new pistons, conrods, possibly a new crank, and lightened flywheel to name just a few.

If you wanted to 'go nuts' why install spark plugs and convert the engjne to methanol? Lol

It's don't quite a lot in the tradition pulling world where they can see upto 4000bhp out of a production block (internals and heads totally custom).

Might need to drop compression ratio a little (meth works with high compression and boost) and up the turbo size a lot! smile
