Winter Starting A Perkins - No Glow Plugs
Discussion
I got it started.
It's had a past issue with crap in the tank - had 2" of rust, water, wood etc in the bottom, when I bought it a few years ago. I drained & cleaned it with my wife's dish brush but with the only access being via the fuel sender I couldn't get it 100% and the tank is rusty.
I cleaned the separator and found a dirty slime in there, actual filter looks ok (peering in from the top I can see the paper) and the diesel below it is clean & clear and after pumping fresh diesel through and a squirt of diesel down the intake it fired up and then restarted off the key.
I'm unsure if dirt/slime was the issue as the filters weren't blocked, possibly the diesel is just draining back. I'm thinking about mounting a 25 litre container on the roof as that solves both issues - although looks wrong.
It's only run for short periods and can be left for weeks which doesn't do it any favours.

Good fun on hear get me head blown off !! Only been working on farm tractors for 40 years most days for a living ? I've been to more starting faults caused by bad earth faults than I care to remember so please don't be so f ing patronising !!!!!!! I did note the one min but don't need an life story on it. Easy start don't use for long periods It tends to dislodge the carbon from the crown of the piston and it goes down the piston side skirt causing the rings to stick so low compression richard

I've never found any engine manufacturer recommending their use, even under emergency conditions where I would personally do so, as they do aid starting.
Here you go, OE ether start for Detroit DieselFord also fitted ether start to some tractors, button in the cab.

Are you unaware that manufacturers make big mistakes in all areas of designFord also fitted ether start to some tractors, button in the cab.
Your above post proves nothing

There's not much point making a issue of this but the ether system on Ford tractors has a solenoid on an ether can which discharges directly into the inlet manifold.
It's exactly the same as if you removed the air cleaner and sprayed easy start in. It's activated by a momentary on/off switch. The operator decides when and for how long.
The John Deere system looks the same, from memory some CAT engines have the same system
