Fiat Ducato 2007 2.2 Diesel Turbo 86k - Diesel Blow By!

Hi guys,
I found a good deal on a 2007 Fiat Ducato 86k and wanted to buy asap. All was working great with decent service history. however when performing a blow by test (taking the engine cap off when running engine on idle) it was producing a fair amount of smoke..No smoke coming out of exhaust at all.
Is this normal or way to much to be healthy? Could it indicate failure of injectors, valves?
In terms of oil it had an oil leak but not excessive on the MOT, (this oil was at top around injectors so they could be leaking?). The current owner had topped up the oil level last week so it was actually over the max limit by cm, but that could indicate a slow oil leak or possible burning? although there was no blue smoke or exhaust smoke and the van ran really well.
