Help With Engine Rebuilds

Hello i am a newbie to this forum, however i know u are serious about ur cars here so i thought i might join and post a few questions.
right i dont have anything exotic, in fact i own a Williams3 which is having serious running issues. i have been told by a couple of people it seems like the bottom end is going. the main reason i joined is because i know there is actually a North Wales section here which is where i am from and was wondering if there were any locals that would be able to help me in my quest to get the little shit running right again.
basically it runs very rough when cold and have alot of noise coming from the back of the engine block. the noise is a funny kind of tractor noise which sounds worse when u rev it short and sharp when cold.... it also splutters a bit and has trouble idling and a couple of people have suggested wild things but the most experienced ppl i have chatted to (2 who own their own co's) have said that it really sounds like the bottom end is going.... GREAT
anyway i know little about the actual engines like how to take it out but i do have alot of time on my hands which i want to use to nurse the car back to full health. it may seem a bit ambitious but hopefully with a little help i will be able to do it
