engine dies after running for 40 mins

Sorry this is a bit of a pathetic post but I'm really at a loss as to whats going wrong...

My 1.1 N-reg fiesta (other car is a chimera 5.0....which has been fine!) has been fine running about town up to now but suddenly died after a 40 min run to work today. It was as if the fuel supply had been slowly turned off. Re-started, ran for 20 seconds, then the same, the ran for 15 seconds etc etc. Left all day, managed to return home only to have a repeat perfromance 5 mins from home.

Seems to be fuel supply problem when hot.....any ideas...am very fed up with the dam thing

thank you for the suggestions.....unfortunately it's fuel injected rather than carb, at least I'm 95% sure it is. If so, do you have any other suggestions?
