So....just bought an amazingly conditioned 20 year old, 42,000 miler. It's been sitting on a drive for over a year & cosmetically I've got it looking mint. However, it cuts out when the engine gets warm. I'm pretty sure it's the ignition amplifier, I've taken it off and removed alot of 'limescale' type substance from the side of the dizzy but after sarting it from cold in 5 minutes it just cuts out!

Firstly, is it the ignition amplifier, why is it cutting out?

Secondly, do I need to get a new one (£60+) or do I just need to get some of the special grease that apparently comes with a new one that stops it cutting out?

Right, managed to get a module from a scrappy & bought some special grease from an electrical supply shop, fitted it on......car still won't fire up!

Changed, plugs, dizzy cap & rotor, what the fcensoredk can it be?

Tried the old amplifier but now with the special grease, fired up straight away, but.....as soon as it got up to temperature & the fan was about to cut in.....it died frown

Maybe the amp from the scrappy was duff too?

Is there a cut out when the engine gets too hot?....I doubt it. Anyway the temp gauge wasnt even half way up.
