Either of those two would ‘suffice’ as far as I’m concerned rat rod! After many years of lagging behind it seems that the decent 3500GTs are now edging into Aston DB4/5/6 money. La dolce vita is bang on and the same notion applies to the lovely Lancia Flaminia GTs of the same era.

I’m edging a bit closer to Maser ownership now that I’ve sold a large chunk of my old railway memorabilia wink

Good to hear P5BNij, , Sure your patient's will be rewarded,

Look forward to that exciting post.

How's your classic Cooper S , Wish i never sold mine , Keep saying that a lot lately. rolleyes
Cheers rr wink. The S is awaiting a new clutch slave cylinder at present and the refurbished '60s Microcell front recliners I bought for it a few weeks back still need installing - apologies for the evidence of yet to be finished DIY in the background....!

A quick Maser offering to restore normal service....

Yes quite rare and they weren't exactly cheap, but life's too short etc, etc. They're replacing the Newton Commercial factory recliner replicas which I'll be selling to a mate to go into his '69 Cooper, that he bought from me ten years ago. Original factory recliners are great though, I had a set in my late '65 Mk1 S, they were two tone grey with gold brocade. They were an expensive option when new, they were introduced in late '65 and not many people ordered them. Old Mini interiors aren't on a par with old Maser luxury but they have their charms.

P5BNij, if you’re still considering a Ghibli, my old one up listed on Autotrader (L299RTP)
It’s a stunning car, and was perfect when I sold it c 3 years ago.

Thanks Dunk - it's a car I've already got my eye on, I'm not quite there with the funds yet but I am definitely drawn to it. Always good to know a car's history and I know it's been through Dickie Grace's hands too.

What was it like to drive, and what was the auto box like compared to a manual...?

Really am interested in this one, which would entail a six hundred mile round trip to view. If some kind soul would buy my Mini 30 I'd be in with a shout!

Edit : just remembered you spoke about the autobox back in October, but would love to hear more about your ownership of L299 RTP wink

Yes - obviously not working at / from my end! Something odd happened when I changed my email address earlier this year, I've had the same trouble on a couple of other forums I'm on.

Meanwhile, more old Masers.... wink

Maybe not such a bargain after all,
Who knows! Perhaps it is a bargain. The MOT history isn't great though, and I remember seeing it in a sorry state being sold in France 5 or 6 years ago.

That said, this could be a great time to pick up one of these in half decent condition for under £20K. I'd love a RHD GT with ABS and seven spoke 17" alloys. Some parts seem to be impossible to get though, so ownership isn't going to be a cheap / easy / viable prospect.

They look so much better in the flesh. Shame about the red interior though!
That car at Dickie’s place was sold a few weeks ago. Personally I love the red interior!

The M reg’ one is the same car I enquired about earlier and got a reply saying that it was being ‘sold for restoration’ to cover the seller’s back. It was also discussed on the Sportsmaderati forum and a previous owner posted that the diff needed attention, he reckoned it would need about a grand spending on it.

Ah yes, I think I saw that on the forum. The chap selling it maybe had a replacement diff available if my memory serves me correctly.

A grand needing spent on one of these cars could easily double, triple, or quadruple if you're unlucky.

An acquired taste. They do look amazing in person however, with the performance to match.
I’ve been watching far too many YouTube clips on them recently, they’re really getting under the skin, likewise with the QPIV V8 Evoluziones (I still fancy one of these). The prospect of real world ownership does give me the odd brain wobble with parts being scarce, but when you compare the asking prices of c.£14k / £15k with those of some other classics there’s a lot of car / value for your money, especially when you see ‘60s Minis and even Fiat 500s going begging for up to £20k. Very different running costs I know, but it’s food for thought.

That grey one with the red interior!!!

Why can no one look at those proportions and try to reproduce something modern from that? Current QP is a complete abortion of a design.

The grey one has actually quite a high belt line as is the fashion today - but remains horizontal instead of going up like a Nike swoosh which seems to be what they teach at all the design colleges. Straight horizontal belt lines like this or the Ferrari 400 can be so dramatic. I have heard there are rear-end crash regs that demand lots of aft body-work; can anyone corroborate?
I's imagine you're probably right on that last point, everything seems to have a fat arse these days, at least when Maserati did it with the Shamal, Ghibli and QPIV, it looked right (to my eyes anyway). The Shamal in Gypsey's photo above looks tiny compared to the Mexico and other Masers next to it!

The high, almost flat belt line and low roofline of the Sebring is very akin to that of the 3500GTs and the various versions of the 5000GTs, in the case of the latter, eight different carrozzeria were responsible for thirty four cars all of which had incredible style and panache, namely Allemano, Pininfarina, Michelotti, Bertone, Frua, Touring, Monterosa and Ghia....
