After three weeks of the VXR8
Discussion
After three weeks of the VXR8, I have gone out today and bought a third car I really don't have much confidence in its reliability
I did over 130k in the CV8 and never felt like that
I'm sure it's just crazy or just the different feel of it but I parted with quite a bit of extra finance today assuming the worst going forward
Suspect it is just down to some of the odd things emerging that the previous owner kept silent on
Still fun to drive if I manage to avoid the potholes !

after all the stories i heard about the vxr8 i didnt have a great deal of confidence to start with but the more i have driven it we have built a strong bond and now i trust it to start and shift anytime i want it too. it was never intended as my daily drive but it has become it. sorry to hear you are not getting on. it is only 3 weeks though. my trust didnt come for a good few months.
I had my doubts too,but like Lee mine has become my daily drive(which i didn't expect it would do). i bought it knowning it needed a few small jobs doing,...service, brake pads and rear tyres(plus fronts soon). Took a chance as it only had 2 months MOT,but as it had only done 19k. Since found out the washer bottle has a terrible leak, and there are a few rattles inside the car but ive covered over 2500 miles trouble free.
im sorry to here you are having problems, and i hope you get them resolved.

Yeah they should be just as reliable as the monaro.
Im sure Roger can comment having seen both models over the years and knowing the numbers imported as to which one seems more reliable.
It has got a blower on it though! So I guess it depends on whats been going wrong?
Im sure I recommended the LS3 NA

Nothing wrong with your old car, think you fixed every part of it
Wheel rims may be a bit thin

You're probably right, perhaps someone did buy the worlds most sorted VXR8. Shame he's not on here to tell the tale. I've done 20k miles since it went in January, it would have been on about 90k by the end of this year.
I hope I'm wrong and probably will be great but just quite a few minor bits which were not mentioned nor did I pick up on
New battery dead a year later. 4 days after picking up!
New shocks dead a year later
Squeaky belts even with new ones on but of course car was subtley warmed up before I arrived
On or off stereo depending on potholes
Washer bottle disconnected
Its all minor really
Just was used to the other one being very robust
Great fun though the SC and auto box go well together though and massive thumbs up from the kids in terms of space and the DVD player
And of course lucky it's in the fastest colour

Thats not sooo bad. Battery probably isn't the right one, see it all the time. Fit the right one, you will have no problems assuming yours isn't an early car that needs the charging rate software update.
The shocks, now i know what/whose car it is, are fine, its just set up all wrong. I saw Craig this evening and gave him the settings id recommend. Try it, i think you will find it much better.
Squeaky belts? Who knows.
Stereo is just a poor connection behind the screen. just needs removing, check all the pins are ok. If so, quick clean and push on firmly.
Screenwash. Again, known problem with early cars. Just get current screenwash bottle and fit.
Job done.
Not that bad really, there are always things that will need doing when you get a secondhand car, battery is always an unknown and always expect to change that, most of these cars are laid up for winter months and unless the battery is looked after it wil die.
My stereo screen goes on the blink every now and again, I just push the top of the surround and it works again.
And any suspension or brake part normally all needs looking at but all put together its not that bad, all fixable and not to expensive, once they have been sorted you will enjoy it
My belts squeaked all the time I had the Monaro and still do LOL but the new owner knew that, most of them do, never known the bearings fail but Roger may have.

Yep, you'd have to be a lucky guy indeed to pickup a truly mint second hand motor. I'd just get that car to a good independent and get those issues sorted and you'll be laughing. Mines certainly cost a bit to put right but it was worth chucking the warranty in the bin to get things done properly.
