Thanks to Panoma for highlighting the article on LSV in the current issue, intersting reading indeed. My favourite bit is that those with HSV GTS & GTSR ownership are part of the 100 imported 4-door Monaros brought in since 2000.

Think about it - they could have called it an Omega (nothing against omega's by the way).

Sounds like a stern letter to the Ed is required.
How about everybody on the Forum sends one. I think he'll get the message then.Perhaps he should be invited to to The Ace to show him some Monaros with two of the doors removed and some with a car front and a pick up back and the word Maloo added.
What a wally.

Actually, Holden did make a 4 door Monaro GTS starting with the 'HQ' series in 1973.
No 'HJ' 4 door Monaro, but it returned again with the 'HX' but lost the Monaro name with the 'HZ' and was just called GTS.

Quite right mate there was a 4 door Monaro but that was long ago. There's no doubt at all that the mag ed was referring to the current one. Why? A/ because there aren't 100 (or any) of the early Monaros here in the UK and B/he probably wasn't born when the original Monaros were around, unlike me and EHRob. Whadya say Rob,... and don't swear!

LOL, hey guys, you werent the only ones that were around to remember the original Monaros.
Ive got an old Super 8 movie that for ages ive been meaning to get transferred to DVD.
Its of me driving the first HT 350 Monaro in Perth a few weeks before they were released to the public.
It was a Holden press car, at the time i was working for the Sunday Times here, and the motoring writer had it to test....and test it we did!

Yes Guy's as you said Holden did have the 4 Door Monaro back in the 70's.

In fact starting in 1971 with the HQ, you could get a 2 Door Monaro Coupe & the 4 Door Monaro GTS. V8 Engines where 253 (4.2) 308 (5.0) & Chev 350 (5.7) that had the Muncie gear-box & Hurst Shifter. What a BEAST Love to have one now !

1974 HJ also had 2 Door Coupe & 4 Door Monaro GTS. The HJ model only came with the 253 (4.2) & 308 (5.0) Aussie engines, as the Chev was dropped.

1976 HX & 78 HZ also had a the Monaro but only in 2 Door like the HZ LE, very colectable.
The 4 Door was called the GTS, I think the HZ GTS was one of the best looking cars around & still is. Engines 4.2 & 5.0 Ltr

A mate of mine had a HZ 4 Door GTS & I loved it.

I got my licence back in 1979 Most of my mates had had Torana's & Monaro's I drove my first Monaro, my Sister & Brother-in-law's HK Monaro when I was about 19, it was only the 253, but what a blast.
I remember at Bathurst in 1980,I was 20 & the track was open to the public after race practice. Everyone was trying to be Peter Brock or Dick Johnson, flat out down Conrod Straight. We went across Skyline flat out & into the Dipper way to fast in a 2 Door HQ Monaro & ended up on the grass at the top of the Dipper. When we realized how close we were to rolling it, we drove on slowly, until Conrod (flat out again) then at the end of Conrod some one had run up the back of a John Goss Special ( I know it's a F**d, but a very nice one hay)

A year or two after that the track was closed to the public for the entire Week. To stop people like us killing ourselfs.

I wanted a V8 Monaro, but I was still living at home & Dad said he would not allow me have a V8 at his house, so I saw a LC GTR XU1 & brought that home. I said it's only a 6 cyl Dad & he said what's the 3 carb's for ? He was never the same after I took him for a drive, or was the passengers seat ! As we hit 3rd gear & the tyres screeched, he shook his head & said what are you doing you Bl**dy Idiot !

TORANA Aboriginal word (To Fly) it did !

Sorry I often dream about the good old days.

Hi Rob
Loved your recollections of original Monaros. Some of the tastiest ones i've seen in Unique Cars are HQs.
Love one of those. In fact my fave car ever seen in there (and there are hundreds)was a '73 canary yellow HQ coupe with white leather (or vynil), polished mag alloys and highly detailed motor, way back in March 2000. Never seen a better one. I'll bring the mag on 23rd and we can drool. The guy only wanted 12.5K AUD for it.Even now there are some real corkers down there for reasonable money.

That will be great mate, bring the mag would love to see it. I'll bring some Torana ones from the 80's.

I got the Classic HOLDEN 2005 Calender up in the kitchen, the car on the cover & for Jan is a lovely 350 HQ Coupe with the Doe Skin interior.
The Calender is a must for Holden fans, I got mine from Trax mate www.topgear.com.au/ only $19.95 about £7.
