I personally would be upset if I had an 04 model Ro registered on an 06 plate right now

eta or any post march 06 registered cars

Surely this will have a negative effect on the newer cars, much more so than on the older ones? Wonder how this will alter the VXR8

Will it really make a difference at 100 to 200 per year??

What he said. Unless it was registered after march 23rd last year it's band F which is now £200 for the year. If registered after that then it's band G and £300 going up to £400 from 1st April 2008.

Agreed. Insignificant compared to the fuel bills. IMHO it's possible that it'll be people's planet saving consciences that could have more of an effect on VXR8 sales - but given the cars are sold in such limited numbers to enthusiasts I can't really see that happening either.

when it comes to cars and the public I think it will make a difference

if someone is looking at pretty much two identical cars but one has a £400 a year tax bill versus a £200 one, the cheaper one will seem more attractive

Isn't it considered a 2.6l for VED purposes or did I just imagine that (not uncommon!)

For me I`m going to have to play the averages game.
A 6 litre that costs 800ish to insure and (eventually) 400 to tax.
And a 5.7 litre that costs 145 to insure and 0 to tax.
Not so bad!!!!

To me it would have just been bloody annoying, especially as I hardly use the thing and it ain't giving out no CO2 while it's parked in the street for 320 days a year. And even when it is being driven, I'd bet my life it's less polluting than some old nail that's got a wonky exhaust and a dodgy MOT from Mr Patel round the corner, like my mate's old VW camper van used to have.

The only fair way for the government to be 'green' about this is to offer a scrapping incentive like they do in Ireland and get the real stinkers off the road, plus using the fancy new DVLA vehicle database to really get after the MOT cheats running around in pollution machines.

But, as he proved with his small busines tax hike (cheers, fella!), Brown the Merciless is only interested in bullying the easy targets and ladling yet more of our taxes into the NHS.

So 2 Monaro's built on the same day can have a significantly different tax to pay.

Well done GB, nice you can create such a transparent and fair tax system!

Isn't that £175 too much? I thought all cars build prior to 1973 were exempt?

Yup - '71 would be tax free I thought.

Leave the UK - sounds like an idea to me.

smug mode on - ive got an 06 6.0VXR, registered 1st March 06, surely the ultimate combination?! all cars reg'd between 1st and 23rd March due to appreciate perhaps?! - smug mode off.

in actual fact we all know this whole thing is nonsense, a very un-stealthy stealth tax and nothing more...
