Garages in my area at the end of last week just tipped over the £1/litre mark at £1.01. I was upset this morning to read it had gone up again £1.03! WTF is going on?

That greedy, incompetent, Scottish tosser Brown needs to drop his fuel duty a bit, especially as he's talking about adding another 2p/litre in April next year. At this rate the only thing I'll be able to afford to do is polish the bloody car an look at it.

Arse! frown

How long before it makes another milestone, £5 a gallon (£1.11/litre)?

It is ridiculous though... in australia the price is about 1.20 a litre... (56 p and of that 16p is tax). What i find crazy it the cost of fuel here, especially when the prices in oz are considered to be pretty expensive.

The fuel itself is quite cheap.

We pay around 70% duty in the UK.

It's either that or have higher income tax/vat.

what we need is fixed pricing

so a BP garage in London retails the same as one in Manchester. I find petrol actually cheaper the further south I go. Why sould my local tesco charge 1.04 and one just 10 miles away charge 0.99? It should be fixed.

Also I know the argument is that most of what we pay is tax, in that case, why should the price of oil really effect things so much and when the price falls why doesnt the pump price? Why are we paying twice that of some European countries for the same grades etc

Sign this & get everyone you know to sign it also: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/reducefuelduty/

I know there are loads of these things on the no 10 site but it might make a difference if it can get enough support?

Also, try this http://search.petitions.pm.gov.uk/kbroker/number10...

Check out the greenies who want cars like ours priced off the roads, there's even somebody trying to get home made bio diesel banned. Wan*ers!

I don't see why it should be so ^^. Yes, I agree that this current bunch of tossers in charge ( and probably any other bunch of tossers who may end up in charge) that will be the trade off but why? We get taxed on income, we get taxed on our savings, we pay VAT on what we buy. We have corporation tax, council tax etc etc etc. I've just come back from the states and they were moaning about a 7% tax rate and $1.30 per gallon.

Does any of this money actually get invested back in the roads? Judging by the pot-holes around here.........nope.

We are an oil producing nation and we still get stiffed by the tax-man. Now we have threats of a 'green tax' because obviously paying more money will make a difference to the amount of polutants going into the atmosphere from industry.

But of course being British we'll just chunter a bit and then smile sweetly whilst we get rogered by the taxman. Anyone for a new 'Peasants revolt'?

Yes, let's ban the free market, that'll sort the whole thing out......

when it comes to something like petrol yes, why not. If a single company is selling fuel it should be at the same price all over the country. It works for music, tesco sell a cd in london at 9.99 its 9.99 in Liverpool - why not petrol?

still under 1 pound a litre most places up here for the standard 4* stuff - fuel always cheaper in Scotland in my experience, still we do own the majority of the reserves around the UK so we should get a discount hehe

How many on here though have actually changed their decision whether to drive somewhere or not based on the price of the fuel? Willing to bet its either none or only a couple of you. 3-4 quid on the price of tankful of fuel isnt good but it wouldn't stop me filling up. Now if I was a lone parent living on benefits it would be a serious blow to my finances. Its supposed to target the people like us running big thirsty cars but in reality the poorer people will suffer first.

On the other hand if fuel was say half the current price would you, indeed could you drive much more than you do already? I know I wouldn't - there isnt enough time in the day for me to do more than I already do so actually the price at the end of the day is an irrelevance to me in that it doesn't in any way change my driving pattern.

Sadly just another case of rip-off Britain rolled up in a pretty parcel to try make it look as though its because they care and not that they just want more of our money from us.

Sorry guys just got to say it !!

We are all driving around in an uneconomical car. If petrol cost was to be an issue we all had the choice. Having said that, have just been from whitstable to richmond today, prices from 102.9 to 99.9, you guessed it I did the 99.9p. But amounts to £1.65p on a fill up ! so given that a few weeks ago petrol was 96 - 97p a litre the cost has gone up by £3.30 a fill up. So my cunning plan is to buy only imported tobacco from now on, thus reducing my contribution to the nations gordon brown holiday fund !!!!! I should really get out more..................

Well, we all got to pay taxes to support the useless pricks in the world, and so that every chav can be able to afford a monaro. What I object to is the death tax, that is just wrong.

Anyhow, looking at buggaring off for a year when this contract finishes. Go back buy a new VE GTS and a Ute, and bring them back, and have a good holiday while I am at it. Starting to get to me.. trouble is, going to probably be going back in the middle of winter, but the tropics will atleast be nice and warm.
