1/2 mile Thunder road event ?

I really think it would be a better day doing a 1/2 event as well, mixing it up with the corsas and astras instead of the V8s just top the field ?
It might help us all mix together. I commented to a couple of mates at Thunder Road this year that there was one row for V8s, then another row for other VXRs- complete segregation!Logistically, there would be not much more hassle to set up 1/2 mile timings- just another set of timing gear.

It's maybe not so easy depending on how their system operates.Logistically, there would be not much more hassle to set up 1/2 mile timings- just another set of timing gear.
If it's all fully wired, that'll be another section of cable 1/2 mile long along with potentially 4 blocks of timing gear for each lane.
1 pair for trap speed measurement and another pair for elapsed time.
So that would add up cost wise.....and you'd still be reliant on it all working on the day and rabbits not eating the cable.
Sure I dont think at some of the mile events they even gave proper stats because they didnt have the gear ? Nor 60fts ?
4 x VBox Sports is £1200. Some users might choose to own one, share costs etc etc. They would be maybe there for the group to use at other venues under any circumstances and they can offer so much more data of each run.
Then someone on the day with a laptop or printer setup to collate the data for everyone.
It's great to see not only overall stats, but various in gear, distance, time, etc measurements

Maybe that's the way forward. I think a couple on here already have them, and say they are good. Then someone on the day with a laptop or printer setup to collate the data for everyone.

Still beats a tuned RS6 away from the lights in the dry....
Having witnessed (what I really hope was) a tuned RS6 run a 10.9 @ 125mph, I'd be utterly flabbergasted if a VXR8 stood a chance, especially given that Perry:really struggled with traction off the line on those massive slicks.

4Vboxes wouldn't be enough, it's about a 10 min round trip at Woodbridge. If it's all fully wired, that'll be another section of cable 1/2 mile long along with potentially 4 blocks of timing gear for each lane.

It's deffo the way forward though.
The only downside I can see is the wally who keeps his foot in for too long looking for a best Vmax.

C5 variant! The C6 is just a beast when tuned as its so fast off the line with 4WD.really struggled with traction off the line on those massive slicks.

Don't some do that with their sat navs anyway? It was the only way I could get 150 to register in the car, and no one fell off the track. As for policing the event, if the speed was taken at the V-box measured mile, then keeping your foot in would be of no consequence.

As mentioned before we can do this in the afternoon at Thunder roadWe have 1
if you guys have another couple then we can just swap out of each car each run
On of you Techie whizz guys with ya laptop can run it too ????

I think the events would just have to be a little smaller, and people accept the slight delays it would pose. It's deffo the way forward though.

or run the Vboxes in addition to the basic timing from event organisers
But even if someone did hold longer, the person collating the data could choose to ignore or dismiss that run. Distance would of course be recorded too anyway, so actual 1/2 or mile results would still be there
Either way though, something like the Vbox or other performance meter is a very handy thing to have even for your own reference.
I automatically log everything on the ecu anyway, so have good details of almost all runs Ive ever done
But even a timed mile run should last less than 40-50 seconds even for the slowest cars, say another 3-4mins return road. So if organised well, VBoxes could be transfered within a 5min window or close to it and be ready to run before 10 mins.
Still not fast by any means...but ya cant have everything I guess.
I wonder what this will be like, and what data it will let you pull off.

At the price, it's worth a punt.

That's all 4WD traction advantage and a fast auto cog swapper. Top speed isn't too special, I'm clocking similar trap speeds at the pod but a couple of seconds off the ET...Should really take the RS4 down the strip for a uncomfortable comparison.

What ET are you running then, mid 12s? Got any info on your car? I've seen your name popup when researching EFI Live stuff but don't know much about it!Should really take the RS4 down the strip for a uncomfortable comparison.
I've only seen (in person) one Monaro hitting mid 12s which is a centri-blown black CV8 with 265 R888s on the back, but I don't think he's on the forum.

Or just use an app on most sillyphones ?http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6241164565.html

Difference with the likes of the VBox is the accuracy and resolution of the GPS itself, plus of course the viewing software for actually viewing the data recorded.

Urgh read the post wrong. Around 13 dead is where i'm pegging, 13.4 was the best I managed on street tarmac at the speed trials. Traction and shift speed are my room for improvement over winter for next year. Some more practice launching would help also...I've only seen (in person) one Monaro hitting mid 12s which is a centri-blown black CV8 with 265 R888s on the back, but I don't think he's on the forum.
Motor is a forged 2300 blown cammed LS2 with various additions (heads etc). Stock tyres/rear end though.

Ooh you and me both then (well, sort of), I was really hoping for a 12 this year but haven't got to the track very much other than for the Power Tour, whereby my clutch fluid was shot and changing gear was an utter lottery...Motor is a forged 2300 blown cammed LS2 with various additions (heads etc). I'm still a way off though, best last year was a 13.25 but I've definitely got more in it, need to get more consistent 60s (whenever I get a good run it's because of a 2.1 60'). I've had some gearbox fun this year but that has all been tidied up now I think. I'm trapping about 108 though, certainly not 125!
I have a VBOX Sport and its a fantastic bit of kit. As said it tells you virtually any info you want. There are no wires and it just mounts too the screen with a suction mount and records data either to SD card in the unit...or if you have an Iphone,Ipad,Ipod it can blue tooth the info live straight to an app. It will give you live data and save runs with speed vs distance graphs and distance vs time graphs.
I'm more than happy to bring it along to the next TR ( or meet for that matter).

Does the inbuilt antenna seem to work ok, or does it need an external ?I'm more than happy to bring it along to the next TR ( or meet for that matter).
Only annoyance about one seems to be more support for ifanny stuff as opposed to Android
There is one or two other third party Android apps that VBox claims will work, just not sure how good or useful they are ?
At £300, really not that expensive if you have no other means of recording data.
