I've gone 096 and it really is no issue, as said above I'd rather know the tractor engine will turn over EVERY TIME.

Thought I’d update this just in case it’s useful for someone else....

Ended up buying a Bosch S5 008 which is 096 size.

Fitted no problem at all.

I didn’t even bother to make any modifications to the tray.
I inspected the underside of the old battery (also 096, fitted by the previous owner) which had been in there for 7+ years and it was like new. The raised bump obviously hadn’t done any damage and it’s so small it doesn’t have any impact on how the battery is seated anyway.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Is the battery secure? Could you use the original clamp? Only asking as it might fail an MOT if its not.

Oh yeah, totally solid. Original clamp holds it in place no problem.

The only difference between the original 027 and 096 is that the 096 is 36mm longer.
This means that the passenger side overhangs the tray ever so slightly.
However by the looks of things it was never held in place there anyway. There is just a slight bump in the tray, presumably in an attempt to stop it sliding should the clamp fail.

I’ve owned the car for 7 years, 096 fitted the whole time and it has passed every MOT first time.

Well that went well! I bought an 096 only to find it wouldn't fit as I have an engine damper to stop the supercharger hitting the bonnet every time I open it up. LS3 style heads are taller that cathedral versions so there's very little room. smile

So I took it back and bought one of these. https://www.halfords.com/motoring/bulbs-blades-bat...

620 CCA. The one that was in it, supplied by Monkfish was only 510 CCA so I think this should be an improvement.
