6 Speed auto

1 4.03
2 2.36
3 1.53
4 1.15
5 0.85

Final Drive 3.27

It is a standard auto. Nothing fancy.

the problem with diesels is whilst they may have good torque output their power relative to petrol engines are still lower (although turbo techology is rapidly closing the gap).

if you want outright performance torque is meaningless - its bhp you want.

I like torque over bhp, my smart has 135 ft lbs over 117 bhp, my hsv has 585 ft lbs over 575 brake, the smart develops max outputs below 4k and the hsv at 4.5k, both cars very tractable indeed

Absolutely - torque wins the "on road everyday" performance but on track it's bhp.

Welcome. I trust all your facts are accurate. It's just that I've been under the impression that there were only 15 VXR 500's produced. If I had known they were that common..... Still at least I got VFM.

I wonder, are you the sort of chap who could answer this. Who makes the best power to weight production engine? Actually anyone can answer it. I was just thinking that an all alloy V8 might not weigh a lot more than some smaller capacity iron blocks. Forget FI for this.

I reckon you're looking at something like a 125 stroker engine, 25-30 BHP, something like 200BHP per litre with next to no weight. And what a great smell from the exhaust

You're actually onto the right lines - you want low number of cylenders, small output and high revs.

The 125 karts I used to race had silly rev limits well into 10k-15k rpm area and would only last a single race between rebuilds.
