Hi. Well just back from the Monaro press launch in Melbourne. We had the major press there driving the V8 at the proving ground and on the Great Ocean Road. You should see the start of press reports next week - tho some might sneak a piece in motoring columns over the weekend.
All in all they really liked the car , only the gearbox/clutch causing a few issues ie heavy vs fwd

Answering a few questions :

When will the full spec on the cars be ready for the public - Brochure is being printed next week and I'll be mailing to a list of people who've already asked for info

2. Will you be showing the Monaro at the Goodwood festival of speed this year (on the hill or static)
- Both models as static.I'm trying to persuade HRT to come over with either a Commodore or Garry Rogers Monaro

3. what are the colours you mentioned above
- Yellow , Red , Blue , Black , Silver

4. have you considered trade in values for our HSV's
- No they're working on that. Its a difficult one as there are no real specialised outlets for HSV.

5. will there be a accessories pack for the Monaro ie. sun roof, tow bar etc.
- Not this year. Though we'll not be able to offer a towbar officially as it'll obscure the fog lamp. Witter have one onthe way.

Right now to sleep off the jet lag

Monaro - Game Over.

Hmm, gave the advertising to the Corsa boys eh?

Stu, are Vauxhall dealers going to do the forthcoming recall work on all those Corvettes they sold?

Rang my most local newly designated Monaro dealer today and as I thought the signs aren't good. It went like this.....

"Hello, can you put me through to someone I can talk to about the Monaro please?"
Dealer; "thats the van, right?"
Me;" er no it's the Coupe"
Dealer; "right, you won't want the commercial department then,I'll see if I can find anyone"
New dealer bloke; " Hello,(very sheepishly)what do you want to know?"
Me;" Specs, delivery,demo,VXR etc"
New dealer bloke."don't know any of that."
Me;" but you are a designated dealer yes? one of 16?"
New dealer bloke" yeh, I think so"
Me; "so can't you tell me anything?"
New dealer bloke; "well the sales manager has drove one"
Me;"and?"
New dealer bloke "I dunno"
Me;So have you got any brochures you can send me?"
New dealer bloke" No, they haven't come yet"
Me;"but the CV8 is out next month, and the VXR in late May"
New dealer bloke;"I didn't know that,oh! I've just found the brochures, they were hiding away!"
Me;"can you send me one then and maybe you might want to look on your own manufacturers website"

I tell you guys, its notlooking good, it's not looking good at all!

Hey Andy welcome to the real world.

I'm going to do some name dropping.

I've dealt with Bristol Street here in Newcastle. No thanks. No interest in the Z28 I had before. I ordered a replacement part and after 4 months I rang Luton. Suprisingly I got a call back from Bristol street and the part arrived 2 weeks later!!!

The only main dealer I can give priase is Steve Thompson Cars - Lichfield. I note they aren't selling the Monaro???? The sales guy there Geoff was in a league of his own. BUT, when I had the service on the Z28 - the plonkers left the central wheel caps hanging off. I picked them up from the car before collecting the keys and slammed them down on Geoffs desk with some class language. Guess the garage took me more serious after that.

TROUBLE IS WITH VAUXHALL DEALERS - they are just doing a job. They don't have passion for the cars. Sorry but these cars deserve more than that...

As for Vauxhall - where was the heart in the marketing campaign for Vettes, Camaro etc....????

I booked my test drive with "Picador" Southampton the day the dealer list came out.

The sale manager knew about the car and the spec (cv8)
and was helpful.

I will find out how good they are when/if they phone to tell me the car has arrived!!

I hope Vauxhall gets the marketing of this car right, a good bit of product placement (film or TV) will help.

The first two article have been published in Autocar and Autoexpress.

Both write up's were positive and only drew attention to items which are already known about like:

Steering being a little vague - our HSV cars have a better set up so the VXR should be good.

Gear selection not consistent - Well I think that is now sorted with the new Rip Shifter on sale in OZ.

Dated look - I like it and the VXR will be a bit more contemporary!

Fuel consumption - Not good around town I know but my last blast around Europe came in at over 28mpg (90mph-100mph cruise)

A good start and I can't wait for the VXR (HSV)!!!

Any comments "Stu"?

Its fair to say that the press enjoyed themselves in the car. There are write ups from Autocar , Autoexpress , EVO , CAR , Sun , Star , Telegraph , GQ , couple of websites , total vauxhall. Top Gear have already covered it with a Clarkson piece.

Items we had to sort out over the std car include the rear fog light and heavy duty wiper motors...can't think why.

Ride and handling is a fair assessment , thought they were more impressed than what they've written mainly because the car performed better than expected for a big vehicle.

Gearbox was interesting because some cars where better than others so we've got the plant checking this for us.

One change you HSV owners will notice on the VXR (GTO) when it arrives is the non coloured instrument pack. We have to have the plain version as the HSV one is not rated below -5C...

Hi,

The rip shift is a replacement of the whole mechanism (which is the weak link not the gearbox)

it is billet steel and does not have a remote link like the original so is very slick.

when in place it looks stock and the original gear knob will fit back on.

try this for reports www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22887&highlight=rip+shift

Hello all,

I am new to this forum so please excuse me if i ask questions which have been answered 100 times before. I have a few questions about the new Vauxhall Monaro. I am seriously considering this car as a replacement for my vauxhall omega, too boring. I also own a 1979 Trans Am 403 and i like the V8, so it would be ideal to have a modern car with a V8. I would use this car for track days and general touring round Europe.

My first question concerns the Towbar, what a bore, i know, But for me it is vital that i can tow a trailer to the track days as the whole family comes. After reading the previous post saying that witter were going to introduce a towbar i phoned them to confirm. Their answer was mo, mon mow, ma what car was that sir. No chance will we be making one too small volumes plus we have never heard of it. Does anybody know if the Australian towbar will fit? Unfortunately no towbar no Monaro. Will just have to wait until Ford or Chrysler release a V8, hopefully they will not be so stupid as to miss a towbar out of the options list. A big V8 coupe would make an excellen long distance tow car.

Hi All,

My next question concerns the BHP, i want the 380 Bhp version as its no light weight car. I would like to get the 330 Bhp version and use the official parts to obtain 380, i only want 380 bhp and cannot justify 7 K for 50 Bhp. I do not need the extras which go with the 380 car, only want the Bhp.

What can be done to the 330 Car to bring it up to 380 using the standard Vauxhall parts, want to keep the warranty.
Hopefully someone on this list will know.

Thanks

Scott

Hi Scamp and welcome to the forum.

The reason the Australian sourced towbar will not fit is because the UK car has a foglamp mounted in the rear bumper just in the position that the hitch would come through.

So change the rear bumper to the Australian version and add a aftermarket fog lamp.

As for Witter I am sure "Stu" will point you in the right direction!!!

Now power - The standard Monaro can be tuned up to about 230rwkw (400BHP+ at the flywheel)

You need:-
1. open out the cold air intake to include the second hole.
2. remove the MAF.
3. Add a new MAF pipe
4. Add Pacemaker 4:1 headers
5. Add high flow cats
6. Add a mandrel bent 2.5 inch exhaust with cross over.
7. Have the cars PCM changed to exploit the changes

That lot will give you an easy 380BHP more like 400bhp.

Will Vauxhall let you keep the warranty NO CHANCE!!!

Unless our man at Vauxhall can say otherwise - over to you Stu!!!
