Steering wheel audio controls

Morning all,
I have an 05 registered 04 model CV8 and the steering wheel audio controls are erratic to say the least.
Very frequently if you depress the volume increase button the sound mutes, depressing the mute button changes the channel preset and depressing the volume decrease button increases the volume.
Whilst this is not the most serious problem it does cause a great deal of frustration.
The dealer I purchased the car from could not identify the problem allegedly because of the intermittent nature.
Not sure if there has been a thread posted on this topic before but in case there hasn’t any suggestions?
