Gearbox / Clutch noise

Hi,

I've got a vxr8 with 1500miles on it and I can't remember if it's done this since new but when the clutch is down everything sounds ok but if I release the clutch even with the car in neutral there is a very slight clattering noise. If I then press the clutch down the noise dies away. also kinda notice it when pulling away in gear.

Could be just one of those things but does anybody else have this on their cars?

Maybe worth getting your dealers to check the gearbox fluid level.

Is it a major job to check this? Just trying to work out if it's a "while you wait" or a "leave overnight" type job.

Someone else has suggested that it could be the idle gear bearing.

interesting though - used the car today and it also only makes slight transmission noise when it is hot. first 10-15 minutes were fine so may be a similar problem.

Well I've got mine booked in.

I'm now stranded without a car as apparently until it's verified there's a warranty problem the dealer do not offer a courtesy car service.

great - 35k on car for less than 2 months and now carless.

Ok - looks like I got a courtesy car.
Phew.

The problem is not near any dealer - all over an hour away so it's a big deal not to get some form of transport.

Update: I picked up the car tonight and it appears all is well.
No problems found and all seems ok. I've been given a service bulletin for the VXR8 and it says that transmission noise can be heard on idle with clutch engaged and it's considered normal with no remedy action required.

The dealer did confirm that there is some noise on take off but they don't think it's a problem (and to be fair I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't been looking for it after hearing the idle noise).

So fingers crossed and see what happens
