Why is it not safe to leave your property in a public place, and expect it to be un-molested when you return? I went into Sheffield today, and left my Tamora in a multi-storey car park - CCTV, security guards etc - come back 1 1/2 hours later, and the radio's gone, and the switches are all damaged by the screwdriver used to prise the thing out of the dash. "We never heard an alarm" was the lame comment from the (ha-ha) "security" staff on duty.
Isn't it time car parks lost their waiver of responsibility - "all cars left at owner's risk" etc. I have to have Public Indemnity Insurance at my work, so that anyone hurting themselves can sue me, so why can car parks get away with effectively taking money off you to stand idly by and let all and sundry do as they please whilst your property is in their posession? Time for a change in the law I think.
Also, why is it that our society is structured to allow law breakers, wasters, junkies, and the like, to get away with anything they like, just because they live on the edge of society, and have no regard for the law, whilst the tax-paying, caring, law-abiding citizen is considered by our government to be fair game, and really, an exploiable resorce for the underclass and government alike, simply because they are traceable through their willingness to declare themselves as members of society, and so make policing easier. We are victims of a shabby Police state mentality, and woolly-minded laissez-faire thinking by the powers that govern us - just because policing the shifting fringes of society is difficult, should their attention be directed to easier targets, like speeders, tax-evaders etc? It is far better to avoid paying road tax and car insurance, because the fines for doing so are less than the cost of the tax and insurance - what's the point of being law-abiding, if all it does is register you as liable for punishment. What a ridiculous society we have allowed to develop.

Lets hope that the person gets caught and justice is processed in a similar way to this case!

Sorry to hear about what happend,
I had a similar problem with my last car in that it was targeted by a group of yobs for continual damage. No sooner thad i replaced a badge or wingmirror than yet another insident would occur. The police attitude at the time was basically "we dont follow up on vandals anymore in due to the restricted number of police officers available" This country in particular has a disease called "envy" and unlike other countrie where this is channeled into productive competition, our youths prefer to kick, steal, scratch other peoples property!

AGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! That sort of desecration really pisses me off. After having my last two cars either stolen (not recovered) and torched (not much use after that!) in Bristol, I feel the little scrotes should have some sense beaten into them. And lets not kid ourselves - they will have been under 18.....
It was the NCP car park on the Moor in Sheffield. Should have thought twice (well, I did, actually) when I smelt the urine in the stairwell. If I'd parked in the Cole Bros. car park it wouldn't have happened - it's a different design - a continual up/down ramp, so all cars are on display all the time, and people are passing to and fro in a constant stream. I'll know better next time. Bastards!!

Another anoying bit to this is if (fecking big if at that, speeders more important etc) they are caught the law system will let them off and pay them for the inconvenience.

Total agreement, can't see how they get away with evading responsibility. They accept your cash, they should make reasonable steps to take car of your property. No wonder the owner of NCP is a multi millionaire.

OK, the small print says car is left at your own risk, but the contract could say anything at all, it doesn't mean it has any legal standing. Contracts need to be between two equal parties, and in this case they are not, so the car park could be seen to be imposing unfair conditions on the contract.

Worst thing about it is they will only get a fraction of what the stereo is worth when they sell it on, to finance their habit no doubt.It is about time carparks became responsible for your vehicle especially when you are paying for it.We have a carpark in Sunderland which is secure well run and very safe.I would have no problem parking any vehicle there, so it proves it can be done!

I've never had anyone break into a car of mine yet. I've had mayonaise squirted all over the interior but that's about it. My in-law's had their new RS2 nicked from Kensington one night. Ordered another one straight away and the day it came the police found the stolen car(typical). The joke is that it had been used in a ram raid in Croydon and left inside the store. I laughed imagining the crooks reaction to putting their foot down in what they might of thought was a standard estate car.
I would like to see some sort of system like the one shown in RoboCop. Crook climbs in, gets strapped to the seat and has a few volts passed through them.

I've had minor problems at work such as kids continually nicking valve caps (for their bikes!) and cutting the windscreen washer cables which pi$$es me off no end! God knows how I'd feel if they nicked the stereo or damaged the bodywork.

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. I suppose I have to look on the bright side and just upgrade the stereo - not that I use it much!! The damaged switches are a nuisance, because a) I have to pay for them, and b) it's a hassle sorting it out with Harrogate HC. Worst of all, my Barry White CD was in the stereo - Nooooooooooooooooooo!!

Because you live in England.
In Germany, part of the cost of the car park ticket
is an insurance policy if any thing goes wrong.
So if the rascals damage your car, it's the car park owners
problem, not yours.
Much better.
BTW, I got flashed at two days ago for not driving
fast enough.
