New 'performance' CF airbox from ACT?

CliveF was involved in the prototyping of the Concept Performance airbox a few years back iirc.
He hand built a stainless steel air box with the front intake to supplement the bottom intake, did the metal work on the throttle bodies to make a smooth transition from the silicone hoses into the bodies, even thinned the throttle spindle/butterfly to smooth the air flow even further.
He also put in high lift cams, new uprated injectors and made a completely new exhaust system, before having it all remapped at Jools' place. There a thread in this area with BHP improvements that documents the improvements he got - it was a standard Sag before and I think he got it to over 400BHP.
To measure each individual improvement would probably have doubled the overall cost as a full re-map after every change would probably cost £500 and he would have had to do about 10 full remaps, so it;s a simply before and after with all changes.
I did email Joolz regarding the SS airbox, as I did like it. However, Joolz pointed out that the car would have to be remapped by him, and that may cause problems with my new 4.3 warranty. I decided not to risk it, so went for the ACT box instead, as keeping my warranty intact is more important. He hand built a stainless steel air box with the front intake to supplement the bottom intake, did the metal work on the throttle bodies to make a smooth transition from the silicone hoses into the bodies, even thinned the throttle spindle/butterfly to smooth the air flow even further.

Barometric pressure sensor...
The act box doesn't come with any of the spigots or hose tails, so it can be customised for each car. For example I don't have the barometric pressure sensor as I ditched the MBE.
You'll also need to drill the air temp sensor aperture in the box top, front mounting bracket etc.

Cheers, the bottom half is now bolted in place, and the air temp sensor drilled and fitted. Just waiting for the Sikalfex to cure for the connector at the rear of the new airbox. The act box doesn't come with any of the spigots or hose tails, so it can be customised for each car. By far the hardest part was bolting the bottom half back in place!
Good work Chris. Good to see you getting stuck in!!
Is there plenty of clearance on the rear clip to the engine bay wall. Tims doing another box for me with the rear clip moved slightly further forward as it was very difficult to latch in the Tuscan engine bay.

Chris, now that your list of things to buy is back to zero, you can add expansion bottle to it
After the struggle I had fitting this bloody CF thing, no, nothing else. In all honesty, I was getting so fed up that I wished I had never bought the airbox. It was a nightmare job from start to finish, especially trying to put the silicone hoses on, and then manoeuvring the top box in place.
Almost done, just a few clips to tighten up, but have had enough for one day. Not sure if it was worth the £1,070 I spent. Looking at the finish, and the amount of extra work I had to do, I'd have to say no, if I'm honest.
All knuckles on fingers now missing skin and bleeding!
Oh, and I have bent my bonnet support rail so much, when trying to push the top half of the box in place, the support no longer slides to shut the bonnet! I am an idiot!

Chris, I like your honesty. Not many people say negative things about something they have paid a lot of money for. Ones I've seen look good but don't actually think I've seen one in person.
You have to get the embossed TVR sticker though for your cam cover, plus it's just a sticker lol.
Hoping to get mine back from Str8six before xmas. Had red hoses & 3 alloy tanks polished for added bling

Cheers I do feel a little silly spending so much on it, TBH, and the mould lines between the inlet opening are plain ugly. But it's on now, and ready for a remap at Doms (will ask him to check the air box over to see if it's all OK first, though). I can also see this design being a nightmare for the specialist come air filter change time...You have to get the embossed TVR sticker though for your cam cover, plus it's just a sticker lol.

I do look out for those stickers, but all I find is the ones for the RV8, have you a link?

Chris, TVR Ecosse do them but at £25 each I think they are way out your budget!

Thank you! I just thought, I got my 'Tamora 4.3' rear badge from them, someone gave me their email address, didn't think of looking to see if they had a website with more stuff to offer!http://www.tvrecosse.co.uk/tvr-accessories.aspx
I think I'll go for the black/silver cam cover badge - I may just be able to stretch to buying it...

Crikey, do they not do the original CF airbox now? I think I paid £1000 for that & was well pleased with the fit & finish. Not sure if it will give the performance gains the new unit will but then I'm not running a 4.3

Yes, they still do the original CF air box - I wish I went for that one when fitting it (or just kept the original..). The main problem is the silicone hoses, they are way too tight when they don't need to be, because the clips hold them securely in place - and even if they had no clips, they aren't going anywhere.
Had they been just a simple push fit, it wouldn't have been so bad. As it is, I had to trim a fem mm off most of the hoses just so I could manoeuvre and push them over the TB's and inlet tubes - and even then it was a struggle, especially for the one under the windscreen.
