Drove mine around Donnington Park today and once again it was very impressive. The engine is still superb after 10K miles..... I have been told by someone at TVR that if your engine is going to go pop it will be within the first 4K miles...and from what I know that's probably true.

Hope it's back soon Nick....

The good news is that it's first on the line when they get back from shutdown so I should get it back by the 2nd week in September

Hmmm...my Griff is booked in with TVR Power for 2 September for a new camshaft - also a few days work.

Maybe they have two parallel lines and we're both 'first in line'..

Yep, I was at Donington today, (mostly on the track!) and mine's been fine, too! Soon be back with you, Nick.

This is bad news, Nick - I appreciate fully how you're feeling (-at least I think I do) : the tuscan went in for a month to have the engine sorted along with other major faults, and I've just taken delivery of a tamora as well (hadn't learnt my lesson, obviously), which has patchy/scratched paintwork and the glove box catch has broken on day two (not as bad as an engine failing, admittedly) - my patience is fast running out. I'm already looking (as much as I hate to) at 911s...

Is all this the "Character", "Individuality", "Proud to have a Hand Built British Sportscar" stuff you all keep writing about ? You have a lot more patience and tolerance than I do, for which you should be applauded.

Judging by the list of past cars, RUF3, you suffer from either a considerable lack of patience, or too much spare cash!!

My TVR Tamora is brilliant, but I am aware that it is not brilliantly put together, but **** it, it suits my character, and I can put up with minor niggles for the sake of being a bit different....

i agree with RUF3, i suppose the crap build will be explained as "i get porsche performance at a fraction of the cost", rather than "i get LADA build quality at an extorsionate rate".
A point to consider, if the cam has worn out i take it that it has lost metal, this metal has been transported around the engine, what damage has this caused? I would put any concerns about the engine and its faults in writing to the dealer in case of any future problems. It is worth pointing out any faults in writing as its amazing how much quicker they get put right + you need to cover your arse in case of future expensive faults.

The thing is.....

When you look at a TVR, theres something different about them. I once spoke to a guy with a £120,000
car (not mentioning the marque). The car sits in the garage and gets driven if the sun is out on Saturdays.
The annual cost of keeping the car was crazy !

Now lets get back to our favourite 4 wheeled friend.

Ok they have their share of problems now and again.

But where else can you get a car which you can use everyday and is a petrol head's dream ?
(and drive something which doesnt say Estate Agent in London "

Ramesh

Phew, I almost thought you were about to start a row!
Very impressive list of cars in your profile though ... or is it that you are, err.., more mature?

RUF 3

We have a profiled list of cars that match up quite well... I will tell my wife that it's not just me that gets bored quickly with cars.

Cheers

Congratulations, you have just reminded us all that there was someone who had less quality control than TVR.....

I refer the honourable gentleman to the following:

Blimey, where do I start....Some of these faults well covered on other threads and solutions provided by others (thanks guys), but here's a summary so far:

1. Glovebox - same as you. Superglue not strong enough but Araldite two-pack is
2. Doors rubbing against sills - dealer re-ground edges and resprayed
3. Drivers side window seal miles out - dealer altered glass angle (two alum brackets at bottom of slider frame altered - easy). Some black self-adhesive draught proofing strip finished remaining gaps, now quiet up to 60mph.
4. Drivers seat too low and no thigh support - I jacked it up with washers and new bolts. Be careful here, its a seatbelt attachment point.
5. All my Bison trim wearing out at rubbing points - HELP! Have alleviated it a bit with velcor strips (furry side) but looks shite
6. Headlights useless - replaced bulbs with Philips Vision Plus (£10 a pair www.bestcarbulbs.com). 50% more light, miles better.
7. Rear numberplate shakes loose - either remove heat deflector and bolt through or stick it with some mastic (not permanent)
8. Black paint flaked off exhaust - polish it off permanently, looks miles better
9. Boot doesnt open wide enough - put 10mm spacers behind the two hinge bolts. Just clears the seal still
10. Water gettign in behind various rear lights - more clear silicon
11. HORRIBLE resonant exhaust boom 2500-3000 rpm. Joolz looking at this, may have a solution soon.
12. Boot lid misalignment - dealer job
13. Speedo inaccurate - get v6.0 software downloaded by dealer
14. LCD display hard to read - try adjusting brightness/contrast, its just about ok now
15. Steering wheel allen screws rusty - get some lovely stainless ones from Leven for £6
16. Impossible to check coolant level - ?? Someone's suggested a dipstick to Leven
17. Roof panel rubber peels off everytime you extract it from the boot - either reattach quickly by stretching it (avoids need for screwdiver etc) of permanently glue it in and use the screws that attach the feeder rail to give extra purchase.
18. Door locks rattle - dealer job
19. Bonnet trailing edge fouls passenger wiper arm - cut away underside lip to free (best done with a minature gringing stone on a Dremel if you have one)
20. Rear roof section fouls seatbelts against B-pillar when folded down - this is one of the most annoying and dangerous faults. Other than wrenching the roof lining around everytime there's no answer. Someone needs to produce a guard that bolts over the seatbelt feeder. Help?
21. Rear brakes locking up before fronts - actually lethal, illegal, and a type approval failure. Dealer can adjust bias
22. Water leaks into footwell - run sealant behind A-pillar door rubbers
23. Windscreen condensation above instrument binnacle - seems to be a windscreen out and re-seal job. But get a new screen ready first, hard to remove without cracking.
24. Loose gear knob - there's a little collar underneath it, just tighten by hand
25. Check you DONT have 3 1" round plugs in the bottom of each door, the holes should be open to allow water to drain.

Someone has video'd flasher and me as we whizzed down the main straight at Donington this weekend - I made a big effort to hammer down the straight, so I could see what the engine sounds like from outside the car... WOW!! absolutely amazing bassy, yet solid rasp, audible from the top of the straight, being filmed from 2/3 down after the start line. No sign of resonance on my tape! No camshafts flying through the air either - just grass n' gravel!! (Whoops!!)

My car does have a lot of the faults mentioned, though, but I love it!!

Imelda, is Joolz doing all your servicing on your Tamora, then? Mine's ready for it's 6000 service, and I'm toying with the idea of getting Joolz to do it, because I want a full geometry check on the suspension.

have to be honest Imelda I could add another 5-10 to that list now. although the exhaust resonance is better, or maybe I'm just used to it.

Erm, why don't TVR do a recall of the cars with this batch of camshafts? Would surely help customer relations and prevent future bad press.

..and they want to smooth the cash flow (for these rectifications), and some of these failures might well happen outside the two year warrantee so the owner ends up paying.....etc....

they'll be bankrupt in 5 years anyway at this rate. In this day and age you just cant sell £40k+ cars with such appalling quality given the rapidly improving alternatives from mass-producers for the same money

I agree they shouldnt, but only on this board you can see that there are a lot of people putting up with it...
