As per the title the Sagaris will be ready in January with a new lick of paint on the front end and i can't make my mind up about the paintshield!
Don't run it on the Griff but the T350 was covered, think due to track days and Euro trips i should invest?? but don't like the look especially when worn frown

I have put a lot of thought into this issue!

As you say it looks shocking after a bit of time.... I personally think its better to have a front end paint every couple of years! (mine is due one)

Reflex charcoal is not as expensive as a lot of the paint shops like you to think!!!

(Look in the Cerb forum for the April Spa trip mate!)

Been asked and answered on here also:

Personally, unless you're doing lots of trackdays on crap tracks with loose surfaces, I'd stay well away from Armourfend/Paintshield. Spoils the look, looks rubbish after a few polishes and is expensive. Budget for a front end repaint every 2-3 years. Paintshield will never protect the really high risk/high velocity areas like behind the front wheels or diffuser behind the rear wheels anyway. The stuff gets beaten up and crusty in those areas in no time.

Where you get bothered about stone chips is where you can see it most - the front end, wing mirrors, behind front wheels.... diffuser behind rear wheels gets tatty with it on or off but I tend to drive mostly with both wheels on - well all four really - so no one sees it biggrin

I think what causes the most stone chips is driving on the fastest roads - motorways, dual carriageways - and being too close to the car in front.... Since owning my Sag I've tried to drive much more realxed and restrained on motorways to reduce the chips, and I have armourfend on the Sag and I have a lot less chips - the T350 looked like it lost a battle with a few shotguns !

It has to be said that in the flesh, close up, the armourfend simply doesn't look as good, but in every photo of my car that I've seen, you simply can't tell, and it definitely definitely protects the paint. As I have Cascade Indigo, when the time comes I will have it put back on, simply because the paint is so expensive. I had the T350 resprayed - Nightfire Red - and didn't bother - based decision on cost of the front end respray.

I owned the Reflex Charcoal Sagaris in question form 06 to 09 & it came with armourfend in various strategic places around the car including extensively on the front.
The sheet on the bonnet front wasn't high enough & were plenty of stonechips above that which was unsightly that I regulary touched in which were mostly from road use not track, loads of rubber off other cars tyres during track use mainly. The Amourfend worked in all the installed areas.

Back in them days Amourfend in 05 is no way as good as Paintshield is now which is on my black M400 again on the front above the sheet of Paintshield there are near a hundred stonechips albeit touched in yet the Paintshield is unmarked & hard to spot, again stratgically installed around the car & still looks as new apart from the bonnet above the Paintshield as the Sagaris.

Both cars had both products installed prior to my ownership. Without hesitation next year on the M400 the bonnet will be fully resprayed & then the whole of the front clam will be in Paintshield Xpel Ultimate. The two cars I have seen with it on were flawless plus the installation was class, If I still had the Sagaris that would be done the same.

I do a lot of track days & prefer my cars to look as new at all times, It's down to personal preference but I loathe stonechips especially on cars such as the Sagaris etc...

Good luck with car

I have to say, I had the car painted in the summer by Surface and Design, then Paintshield applied right up to the top lip of the main bonnet...and all the other normal area's

I'm very pleased with the result...and I think people seemed pretty pleased with the look of the car on the stand at the NEC....so I'm a fan, and the people at Paintshield are very good and professional. Incidentally, they told me that people turn up with some brand new very exotic machinery, having had the car detailed, then they 'wrap' the car in Paintshield...job done, no need to detail the car ever again!

I have it on mine and always have.

If paint used is cheap, then you don't need to, but if paint used is not cheap, then do.

Pretty shiney !!

Good post from shaunsmith - sounds like Paintshield for me next time - all the way up to the windscreen ! Good tip about the 'detail the car first', or straight after a respray.

I have paint shield on front of my car (admittedly not a TVR) highly recommend it. 2 yrs on from a respray and the car is spotless. Can hardly notice the edges.

Some great replies and i think once the paint has properly dried i'll get the front end covered to get some piece of mind smile
Shawn will you be out at Spa in Easter?
The previous owner has made some really nice mods to add to what you had already done so i'm very happy with the finished product, its allot less stress than building from scracth as i did with the Griff biggrin

Christian,

Hopefully there at Easter, Yeah Paul did take it further & enhance to where I left off albeit reluctantly as I wanted to achieve the Ultimate Sagaris & Ring weapon...frown
Paul is a great guy & we still keep in touch, I'm looking forward to seeing him & new his LS Tuscan in the New Year.

Once paint has properly cured, I'm certain you won't regret it matey. I have to commend you with your 'fleet' a fantastic array...
In regards to the Sagaris it's a bit like an Ex that shouldn't of let go but something else always comes along but never the same...

Look forward to catching up next year.

I've got some form of paintshield or armourfend protection on my Sag, would absolutely say go for it, looks great having a car with no stonechips, they are a pet hate of mine! Waste of time for a track car though as you'll get marks one way or another unless you cover the whole car.

have armourfend on mine, and yes it does look worse once you get a bad stonechip on it as the platic sort of bubbles up around the chip, however the way I see it is it`s doing a good job, and know that if I ever decided to sell I`d have to have it removed and a repsray job done, or have it done anyway once I`ve got the trackday bug out of my systemhehe

a tip, sometimes in the garage over the winter the plastic does start to look sort of not so clear, as if you know its plastic sheet over the paintwork if you see what I mean, I use meguires plastic window polish, its like a very very fine abrasive, a good going over with that, making sure you dont get it on the paintwork and it looks good as new.

I had armourfend applied to mine when I bought it new in 2005. Still on, a couple of marks where large stones went through the plastic on the front, but must have saved 100's of stone chips in that time. Well worth it in my view.
