A potential new Joiner to the AM world
Discussion
Good evening,
I spent several hours reading through different topics trying to figure out which is the best car to buy. I have learnt a lot and you are all very knowledgeable. I tried jaguar, 911, or r8 but the vantage has something special that i cant describe. Although i love the DBS , it might be too expensive to run, still a bit high for me, so i will start with a V8vantage if i find the right one.
I am starting to have an idea of what i want and understood that a post 2009 v8 vantage was normally better, and was having less niggles. Thanks in advance for those who will reply.
I prefer a sportshift gear box as well as my wife might drive it from time to time (easier to drive, for me as well
. A roadster could be nice but it's not really my style. I was thinking about spending 50k initially and then found few more vantages at 55, 60, 65k so i gave up sticking to my initial budget. It is not a rational thing to buy anyway, so why try to stay rational... (I cant go above £70k however... and thought i would try to think more in term of depreciation of the car over the period of ownership which is likely to be two or three years at least.
Now where i would need help is on the following thoughts:
- I found a 2012 car with sportshift2, garmin Sat Nav and few options for little less than 70k, and almost no mileage. i assume the 1st owner already got the biggest hit in depreciation and it has the warranty.
- I also found a 2010 model (09 plate), for 55k , with 20k miles.
I was thinking that actually the price i pay doesnt matter that much as it would depreciate by roughly the same amount for each car every year. It seems that it is losing 5-6k / year, looking at the price of 2009 to 2012 cars on autotrader. While i would lock more money in the '12 V8V i could also do more miles with it without having to worry. it might be easier to sell back a '12 with 25k miles than '09/10 car with 45-50k miles in two/three years time.
Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

Corsica, Sportshift 2 is a must. Is the car coming from an Aston dealer? Haggle hard .You have probably picked the best time to buy. Niggles, I have never experienced any!! I have had 2 x Vantages and covered 22,000 miles in 23 months, no problems whatsoever, other than a tiny bit of paint coming off the drivers mirror bracket. The whole mirror was changed immediately under warranty by H.R.Owen in Cheltenham.
The cars are superb , for me no other marque gets close. For reasons that I shall explain in a future thread I now find myself in the position to choose a new car. 911, R8,458? no Bloody Chance !!!!!! I will choose an Aston Martin above any other . Go and do the deal and get involved in an emotional roller coaster. An Aston will make you smile every time you drive it . Forget about depreciation all cars depreciate. It is only relevant when you come to change and then why would you?

It will be interesting to see if your loyalty to the V8 engine has diminished

OP...get it bought and stay on the forum for tips and banter...it makes ownership of such a prestigious marque less lonely

If he moves on to the big boys engine there will be a lot of spares going cheap at BR ![thumbup](/inc/images/thumbup.gif)
No chance, he is not man enough for a V12 ![thumbup](/inc/images/thumbup.gif)

To the OP, sadly I agree with Jockers (please don't tell him I said that), if you want ASM then ASM 2 in the 2012 with the warranty etc etc is the way to go. Personally with £70K I would be looking at a 2009 V12V........ just sayin

Thank you....I've been called many things, but knowledgeable is not one of them ![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
I would go for the 2012 one simply for the original warranty benefits

Plus ASM2 is a lot better than ASM1
