The V8V, being a 2-seater, presents some problems trying to squeeze all three of us - plus a dog - into it. Two options are being considered : trade up to a DB9 or keep the Vantage and get a 1965-68 Ford Mustang.... Decisions, decisions....

Suggestions, please?

...already have the X5, Triple 7, so this is purely for fun... Tough call - DB9 or an old 'tang...!

Will probably get flamed for this, but nobody seems to ever mention safety when talking about classic cars. Have an accedent in a DB9 at speed and you'll probably walk away. have an accident in a 60's car and you and your family could be in serious trouble. Don't think they even had collapsible steering columns then.

Flaming starts! We're already too much of a cotton-wool society. What's the expression - life; the only thing worth dying for!

In any case, classics don't tend to get hammered like new cars do, driving one tends to change the way you drive - at least my little MG does.

I was wondering why you wanted a DB9 over say a 4.7 V8V. Honestly I think a 4.7 V8V would be about as quick and certainly more sporty than a DB9. But the DB9 does have the v12 and looks the stuff....

Get a 70s V8. A genuine 4 seater- with me in the front at 5ft 10, there is room for me in the back (if you know what I mean)

They are all unique, and great drivers. And they wont depreciate.

Nickco - simply because we've an 18 month old daughter and the V8V (which I already have) is only a 2-seater so all three of us (and the dog!) can't fit into it... Thus I want a fun car that we can all go out in - a 2+2 Aston DB9 or keep the V8V and get the 'tang. Believe me it's a tough decision!!

I have had a DB9 and to fit a baby (without legs) is quite possible but a dog as well won't work. The rear seats are not that practical to say the least.

If you're only using the V8V/Mustang combo for fun, you might want to consider how much actual use you'll get out of them. You may find you naturally just use one or the other of them, and one languishes in the garage unused. Which is a waste (of the car, and resources).

An original V8 is definitely an idea I'd be considering. Classic feel, brute of an Aston. Mustangs are lovely, but always seem a bit "faux" to me.

As for classics and safety...as others have mentioned, the simple answer is not to crash. And should the counter-argument to this be that you cannot control what other road users do, that's fair enough. But if you're alert, you can spot what other road users are about to do fairly easily and allow for it. It actually makes your own driving significantly better...

I tend to agree that we've gone waaaaay to far on the nannying safety measures and that these are one of the major contributors to the dumb arsed "accidents" you see happening all the time.

So...with the cars you have, I'd probably go original V8, possibly the DB9 or maybe just the Mustang smile

The dog ain't so keen on the Vantage - he slides about a bit... He preferred the DB7 as there was space in the back!

I bought an Aston Martin coffee table book a while back and I was having a look over the weekend. What about an old school Aston Martin shooting brake? I have no idea how many are out there but they were made back in the late 80's/early 90s based on the old V8 model. I think QEII had/has one?

I think your dog is a wee bit big for the back of a DB9...
