Been to New York for a day, hated it.

Been to the Grand Canyon. Went in the little 4 seater plane thing, it made me sick. Went to Nevada in the same trip. Wasn't a fan of Vegas at all.

Everglades would be interesting for about a day. Canada is far, far nicer smile

Longer explanation please smile

That's a shame. With alternative spelling like that, you'd be most welcome there. laugh

I'm a big fan of NYC, mainly due to the fact it's so iconic, but my favourite city over there is Chicago. Much friendlier, nicer pace of life.

LA is a dump.

Hoping to see San Francisco this summer and then maybe spend some time in the Napa valley.

Maybe a couple of days in Vegas, the OH has never been. I think she'll hate it, but you have to see it at least once.

+1

Happy wine hunting in Napa !!

By the looks of your OH (stylish) she will most definitely hate Vegas, but it will mollify her if you take her to Cirque du Soleil's 'Love' at the Mirage.

Also, Fat Elvis is a must smile

I prefer Sonoma Valley, not trying so hard. Sausalito is also worth a visit smile

Never went upstate, I just spent a day and night in the city on the way back from LA.

Not a huge fan of cities anyway, but really didn't like New York. Or LA.

Another thing I seriously hated was the tipping. I'm supposed to give people a tip even if I wasn't impressed with the service? That's bks. So are the places that add a tip to the bill.

I'll stick to America's neighbours. Far better places imo.

Yeti, if you are not feeling too poor, stay in the Mandarin. The view across the bay is unrivalled - left to right of Golden Gate, Alcatraz and Oakland Bay bridge from 44 to 48 stories up, unless the fog is in, in which case it would be an expensive waste of time.

Why do you feel the need to berate the US from time to time confused You didn't like NYC. You say you don't like cities. Go figure.

Do you really think Vegas is representative of the US?

Did you get sick in the little 4 seater plane thing because you were flying over the US? Would that same 4 seater plane thing not have made you sick if you were flying in it over Europe? England? Canada? Must be the US's fault.rolleyes

Nice! The little orange lights, do they actually light up or are just reflectors?

Would you be pulled by the cops if you deleted them or covered them up?
At the risk of going (mostly) back on topic...

Thanks. The little orange lights are in fact lights, and there are similar red ones on the rear bumpers. These "side marker lights" are required in the US -- have been since '68. I think it's unlikely a cop would notice if they weren't there. Since removing them would require filling and repainting the bumpers, I would never choose to do that. Although the car certainly looks better without them, they don't really bother me. I'm sure it's partly because all post-'68 cars here have them, so I'm used to them. Also, Aston made them much less objectionable than they are on most cars -- they're longer but much slimmer than the norm.

On the Vantage line, the extra rear bumper things are much better integrated than they are on the DB9 -- I don't think they detract from the Vantage at all.

I think the lack of a front number plate is worth putting up with the side markers. Although I'm supposed to have a front plate, it's rarely a problem here. So far, anyway...

And taking it right back on topic, Lightning Silver V8V. If you have seen this colour you will know how much it changes in different lights:

The facinating thing about this combo is, that the two cars are almost exactly 50 years apart. The DB4 Series III left Newport Pagnel in April 1961. At that time is was one of the fastest road-going cars in the world. Quite impressive. Despite the fact that this particular one (all matching numbers) has been upgraded by Richard Williams to a 4.7 liter engine lately and drives (and brakes) better than when it left the factory 50 years ago it is still a mighty impressive and fun car to drive in today's world. There is obviously no power steering and no aircon so it is quite a physical excercise to drive it fast on bendy roads and the sound is pure Aston.
