Would a similar spec Vantage from an AM dealer with Timeless be the same price as one from a specialist such as McGurks? (Genuine question).

If so, then I'd agree - if you want a dealer car, buy from an official dealer. But assuming it would cost more, then I guess it's one of those things - you get what you pay for, and you have to decide how much you want to pay.

I've bought majority of my past cars private and been very pleased. My recent purchase (vantage V8) with V, low miles and the best I could afford was from a main dealer with 'Timeless' warranty.
I've just ran-in the new engine that was replaced under 'Timeless' warranty. Dealer fitted complete new clutch too FOC as goodwill gesture as it was all out.

McGurk's warranty limit is £2k - what's the limit on Timeless ?
Unlimited total claim value (up to the value of your car).
So , realistically , if you really want a warranty , Timeless is your only choice .
That's a bit of a strange statement. I've paid for plenty of stuff on my car which would have been covered by a decent warranty, and would have been under £2k. I'm entirely happy not having a warranty - but the idea that a warranty is utterly pointless unless it covers the entire value of the car is an odd one.
I certainly wouldn't pay £6k extra for a car just because it has a £2k warranty - obviously the maths makes no sense there. But the McGurks car has other advantages that explain some of that price difference according to the details given by the OP.
Sorry , I didn't mean not having one that covered the value of the car was pointless . Timeless is the best warranty was my point as the cars with it are not priced substantially over ( if at all ) the "best" independents .

Very little in it.
Cheapest car with in the TIMELESS network is this one.
http://used.astonmartin.com/en-GB/Search/Details~B...

Wilmslow, appear to have a very similar car to McGurks at £36,587, 2007, Tungsten, 47k

But the specialists appear to be outnumbering the main dealers when it comes to cars in the '£30-36k' bracket.

yes see above post with regards to warranties. A cheap warranty is exactly that. A £2k limit would be eaten up in no time and if I'd one, then my car would still be waiting for me to save . They are very different animals. Otherwise go with gut feeling.

Fair point but you do say your engine issue was exceptional . On average ,warranties must cost more than they pay out otherwise the supplier would lose money . Bit of a lottery really versus piece of mind

Yes, as it seems my circumstance was exceptional, apparently a never seen before issue. But, a £2k warranty is exactly that, whereas an unlimited warranty is a different thing. Whatever car is bought is a gamble and I've bought many private cars before without issue nor warranty. My point is a cheap warranty versus expensive warranty are two very different things and therefore should be reflected in price. Condition, history and owners are key.

As I've said before on here, a chat with the previous owner is priceless, especially when buying a dealer car, where the previous owner has nothing to gain by hiding anything.

I was able to get hold of the previous owner of mine with a bit of internet searching, and had a very informative chat with him on the phone, he confirmed the car had been a great one for him and was never a problem during his ownership, and he'd merely traded up.

That made me feel so much more relaxed about parting with more money for an 11 year old car than I paid for my last house!!

Hi all. Well I purchased one and feel scared and happy at the same time. Got an ok deal from McGurks off Rob - nice chap. 56 plate 07my in tungsten and black interior. 3 owner. When opening the bonnet I spotted a black engine top. Turns out the car has had the 400bhp power upgrade and is also de-catted. Sounds aboloulty gorgeous. Got the original cats also.
Collection at month end.
Warranty is only a £2k per claim but can be used anywhere.
Hopefully nothing major happens but should cover the niggly bits.
Wish me luck and thank you for all your help.
I’ll post pics when I collect.
Ps/ I’m nervous as hell!

Congrats! Bought mine from McGurks in Dec. I was a bit nervous too (my 1st Aston) but it’s been spot on.

Excellent, well done. To be fair I started out on my quest for a vantage with a visit to McGurks and they seemed real nice guys with all the time in the world to educate me on Aston ownership. just unfortunate they didn't have the right car for me when I actually bought one.
I understand completely about happy/scared.
You'll love it driving
