RE: Aston Martin Lagonda - Exclusive Pictures
Discussion
How do you make a tank look good...thankfully they will not sell many over here, its obviouly made for the Americans with no idea about style....it looks crap, and will not be successful, it will be the end of Aston, although it looks no worse than Porches effort. Makes a Range Rover look good!

Marek Reichmann (a Brit) has been the Director of Design since 2005. His career is:
Not to be pernickety on a PH forum, but there isn't a Teesdale university in Newcastle. There's the Newcastle University, and Northumbria University.- Graduated from Teesdale University in Newcastle with a First Class Honours Degree in Industrial Design
Reichman attended Teesside Polytechnic, which became the University of Teesside in 1992. It's in Middlesborough, about 40 miles south of Newcastle.
Cutting and pasting is a dangerous thing.

Hi Guys
Marek Reichmann (a Brit) has been the Director of Design since 2005. His career is reported on page 3 as follows:
Began his design career in 1991 with Rover Cars
Moved to BMW Designworks in California in 1995, to become Senior Designer, and led the overhaul of Land Rover design DNA for future production models most significant of which became the 2003 all-new Range Rover.
Joined Aston Martin as Director of Design in 2005.
I thought that was quite interesting. I couldn't quite work out what this extraordinary car reminded me of until I read this resume earlier on in this topic.
The car has a very domineering front air intake grille, a very high waistline and, by comparison, a "chopped" glass area and roofline.
I don't know how to load pictures into this topic, but perhaps someone can do it for me. If you "Google Images" for Lagonda Rapide, you will see an earlier Lagonda sports saloon that moved in that direction.
But when you "Google Images" of the very handsome Rover P5, I reckon that was the car which Marek Reichmann was harking back to with this Lagonda styling concept. And, interestingly, (see above) M R apparently started his design career with Rover. As an observation, IMO, a modern Lagonda Rapide 4 door saloon would work really well if it was based on the Rover P5 "Look".
However, for some reason, Aston are not producing this Lagonda as a saloon, but as an SUV competitor to a Range Rover Sport / Porsche Cayenne type of vehicle. And what do we find if we read M R's CV (see above) a bit further ? He is attributed with the overhaul of Land Rover Design DNA when at BMW Designworks. So that's maybe why this Lagonda is an Aston Martin "Super Land Rover".
In conclusion, I have to agree with most of the previous commentators within this topic, that this new Lagonda "Ueber SUV" seems hugely "visually challenged". And since sports cars have got to have the 3 B's - look Beautiful, go Beautifully and sound Beautiful - this one better have a 600 BHP / 600 ft lbs V8, V10 or V12 - and the most gorgeous exhaust note - or it is going to be really difficult to sell at a price which will probably be north of £100K - £120K !! And, as 600 BHP engines don't generally get good fuel consumption, this Lagonda maybe already be a Dinosaur too far to sell in the next decade.
I'll get me coat, then !
